What do you guys think of the name Honor? I've always liked it but don't know if it's actually a good/nice name or not?! Definitely over thinking it Wink

Your feedback would be great x

I don't see it as American.
It's nice. Doesn't travel particularly well outside the anglosphere but that's not necessarily an issue, I guess.

I rather like it, tbh.

I like it but prefer Honoria (meaning woman of honour)

So do I. Honoria and Felicitas are two of my favourite girl's names. But my DH doesn't like them... :(

Lovely

I love Honor, Hester and Hope. (Good job I didn't have triplet girls! Grin)

But (potentially about to sound simples)...

Honoria.

As in On-oar-ee-ah. Or as in On-o-ree-yah. Which as pp points out, rhymes with gonorrhea.

Confused
CravingCheese · 28/11/2019 10:39

Honoria doesn't sound like gonorrhea, no.

(h)o-no-ree-uh, (h)on-or-ree-uh or ho-NO-reeuh.
I'd favour the first pronunciation and probably pronounce the h. Mostly because the Honoria I know is German / uses a traditional German pronunciation.

NoSquirrels · 28/11/2019 10:45

Always thought Honoria was pronounced On-OAR-ee-ah?

CravingCheese · 28/11/2019 10:47

I've just realised that I must be really bad at explaining phonetics. Because the 3 pronunciation variants look rather similar but sound completely (!) different to me.

(the last pronounciation might make more sense if written like this: Ho-NO-ryuh. Three syllables, doesn't have the clear ee/ea sound of gonorrhea. It's much closer to the ia sound in Lydia.)

There's an awful joke about Honor and Offer (on her and off her), that would put me off the name, sorry!

I know an elderly lady who is called Honor. You don't pronounce the H. In UK. Lots of nice comments about her name.
