What do you guys think of the name Honor? I've always liked it but don't know if it's actually a good/nice name or not?! Definitely over thinking it Wink

Your feedback would be great x

Hebe is awful. Hebe jeebies!

HorridHamble · 24/11/2019 19:19

I love it. Ticks all the boxes for me.

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 19:19

Honoria to rhyme with gonorrhoea?

MsTSwift · 24/11/2019 19:19

Love it. Don’t know any

MsTSwift · 24/11/2019 19:19

I like Hester too

catsmother · 24/11/2019 19:40

I'm very very biased for outing reasons I won't go into here, let's just say i think it's a beautiful name for a little girl and I've never regretted my choice Wink

It's usually spelt ... for the name ... without the 'u' , even in the UK. My understanding is that it originally became popular as one of the 'virtue' names popular amongst Puritans in the 1600s.

IIRC, I think Tilda Swinton has a daughter called Honor. There's also a young actress called Honor Kneafsey who was in 'Our Zoo' a few years back. I really like the fact it's still considered an unusual name, but most people seem to like it and don't think it's outrageous or ridiculous.

LarkDescending · 24/11/2019 20:02

Yes it’s traditionally spelt Honor on the UK, being an old name which was used long before the standardisation of the “honour” spelling of the vocabulary word c1800.

LarkDescending · 24/11/2019 20:03

*in the UK

MissHenty · 24/11/2019 21:01

Interesting facts about this name

I love Hester too

Maywedding · 24/11/2019 22:15

This has really swung me to loving the name.

So is Hebe actually pronounced hee-bee? Never heard of it!

My daughter inherited Honor as her middle name from her grandmother. I loved the name from the moment I met my mother-in-law and we specifically chose a first name to go with it for our daughter.

MollyHuaCha · 24/11/2019 22:29

I know a Hebe (pronounced Hee-bee).

Honor is lovely. Don't spell it a different way.

Hester is also a really nice name.

Fozzleyplum · 24/11/2019 22:35

I love it. If we had had a girl, she was going to be called Honor.

Idontneedrescuing · 25/11/2019 14:29

I really like it and it was on our list but a few people misheard it as Ana (of Frozen fame) which put me off, rightly or wrongly!

MikeUniformMike · 25/11/2019 17:26

Lovely, but depends on the surname.
Honor Hill, Honor Dick or Honour Watt might be too much

Maywedding · 25/11/2019 18:11

MikeUniformMike hahaha luckily our surname isn't Dick Grin
But agree it's a name that won't suit every surname. Our surname has 3 Ls in it so at least honor/honour isn't more Ls!

The feedback has been really positive Smile really happy x

Quite often an "a" is added to soften, dont know if you'd thought of that?
Honora

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/11/2019 18:54

@lilgreen sorry thought it was only us that ignore h's

lilgreen · 25/11/2019 19:07

I don’t as a rule but it’s just the way the word is pronounced even when it’s not a name. E.G To love , honour and obey is pronounced without the ‘h’.

CaptainCabinets · 28/11/2019 00:54

I’ve only ever known two Honors and they’ve both been wonderful. One was my class TA when I was five or six and the other was my sister’s friend in sixth form. Beautiful name with lovely connotations for me, absolutely go for it!

It’s a gorgeous, graceful name.

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 08:08

Love.

Courtney555 · 28/11/2019 08:14

Honor, Hester and Hebe have all been on our list.

As have Hestia, Eurus and Eugenie, which have the same feel, I think xxx

Courtney555 · 28/11/2019 08:14

FFS. Ignore the kisses, texting DM at the same time Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/11/2019 08:17

I like Honor but I prefer Hope.

Sksksksk · 28/11/2019 08:58

I love it. Timeless and beautiful.
