What do people think of the name Sidney for a little boy? Will mainly be Sid I would imagine.

It’s my cousins name - hate it.

Officerthosearenotmysuitcases · 19/11/2019 19:10

I prefer Sydney for a girl

Omashu · 19/11/2019 19:36

Love it for either! But spelt Sydney for a girl.

Thetimetravelerswife · 19/11/2019 19:38

Dislike.

I’m not a fan of names of cities eg. London/ Paris

Or names of areas like Chelsea/Sloane/Brooklyn

I know it’s actually a name also...but it gives me those vibes.

Sorry

30somethingandtired · 19/11/2019 19:54

Risks a childhood of taunting "Sidney the Kidney" I'm afraid.

Sorry.

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 19:56

I think it’s a great name. A classic! LOVE

I think it just takes a bit of getting used to initially. At first I wasn’t sure about the name but as soon as I met a little boy with the name (it suited him), I thought wow it’s a fab name

lvra · 19/11/2019 19:56

Thank you all for being so honest! Definitely some things to think about!

All I can think of is Sid James from the Carry On films Grin

Tillygetsit · 19/11/2019 23:37

I'm so sorry OP but it is my least favourite name ever. It sounds so sour.

alexdgr8 · 19/11/2019 23:45

i like it.
traditional, solid, not pretentious, friendly.
I see a happy, well-adjusted little boy, kind and out-going, easy-going.
good luck to you all.

Jossina · 19/11/2019 23:48

I've come around to it and now like it a lot thanks to knowing a Sidney/Sid. He's great.

MadameJosephine · 19/11/2019 23:51

I prefer it for a girl. It’s my DD’s middle name, spelled Sidney just like her grandad

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/11/2019 23:52

Knew a horrible Sidney - temper tantrums, rude, selfish behaviour & never given any boundaries. Put me off the name for life!

Jj2431 · 20/11/2019 16:33

No. The nickname Sid is particularly awful

Shadow1234 · 20/11/2019 21:14

I also prefer it for a girl.

bridgetreilly · 20/11/2019 21:17

I like it, OP, though I'm not a huge fan of Sid. Sidney is lovely, though.

Sandsnake · 20/11/2019 21:21

I really dislike it, sorry. Conjures thoughts of an unkind, sweet old man for some reason. Names are weirdly subjective though.

That said, I’ve recently met my first child called Sidney and he was a really lovely kid.

midsomermurderess · 20/11/2019 22:26

I don't understand the love of it for a girl, but not a boy. It's just one letter different. I like Sidney/Sid for a boy.

Pukkatea · 21/11/2019 09:18

Evil kid from Toy Story.

TatianaLarina · 22/11/2019 20:27

I like it for a girl, not for a boy.

I've taught a couple of Sidneys / Sids. I like it and would place it with Stanley or Arthur.

NanooCov · 23/11/2019 08:35

There's a boy called Sid at my kids childminder. He's lovely and his name really suits him. Not sure if he's Sidney or just Sid.

My (female) next door neighbour is Sydney. I like it. Have never met another one.

misspiggy19 · 23/11/2019 08:36

I'm so sorry OP but it is my least favourite name ever. It sounds so sour.

^I agree. Even worse when it gets shortened to Sid

MrsNoMopp · 23/11/2019 09:04

I like it. It's retro in the same way as Eric, Ray, Stanley etc.
