DP and I are really struggling to agree on a name for DS2! DS1 is Albie, so would obvs like it to go with this.
Ideas so far:
Oscar (I love this name but DP worried it might be a bit "posh"!)
Finley/Finlay (I worry that this might not go with Albie)
Ronan (DP likes this name but I worry about the Keating association!)
Keen if possible for an Irish connection as DP is Irish and has a very Irish surname (which will be DS2's surname)
Any honest thoughts appreciated :-)

@Ellmau - yes, that’s what exactly my concern - the flow of Albie and Finley. I’m warming quite a lot to the idea of Finn though.
I do like Oisín quite a lot actually - but worry about it being tricky to know how to pronounce it over here.

Thanks @NoSauce - some good suggestions. Jude and Luca flow quite well with our surname; but obvs don’t have that Irish connection we were hoping for... 🤔

Owen
Sean
Rory

Millie2008 · 16/11/2019 23:36

Sean has too many family connections sadly, and Rory doesn’t go with the surname. I like Owen and had considered it, but wondered if it needed to be spelt Eoin to have the Irish link, otherwise isn’t it a welsh name? And we have no welsh connections...

@millie2008 yes the Irish spelling could work and would definitely provide that link to Ireland that you're looking for Smile

@Millie2008 yes I must say I’m really not keen on RoMan either. I’m surprised it’s becoming so ubiquitous as fastest rising name. The mix up between RoNan and RoMan would irritate me no end . Will keep my thinking cap on. There’s loads of great suggestions coming through

autumnkate · 17/11/2019 08:58

Finbar?

Millie2008 · 17/11/2019 12:34

Thanks @RaymondReddingtonMrs - do you think the Eoin spelling is common enough over here for people not to mispronounce it?

I wouldn’t say Oscar is posh and I think Finlay goes with Albie just fine. Ronan Keating is not very active these days so I think that association won’t be a problem, I bet most people born outside of the 80s/90s wouldn’t have him come immediately to mind and it definitely won’t be a problem for your DC’s generation.

If not Ronan how about Rory, Reuben or Rufus?

Millie2008 · 17/11/2019 13:37

Thanks @MyNewBearTotoro - love Reuben, Rory and Rufus!
Rory doesn’t go with surname though which starts with R! Reuben doesn’t have the Irish connection obvs, but is still on my list actually, and Rufas; probs being ridiculous but worry about bullying potential...? Rufas the dufas comes to mind! Overthinking perhaps

I love Ronan

Untamedtoad · 17/11/2019 18:34

Fionn, (Fin) would be nice for the Irish connection, but still keeping it simple.
Hugo.
Ruari (Ro-ry).

Evanna13 · 17/11/2019 21:19

Finn is commonly used in Ireland but not Finlay or Finley. Finn is a lovely Irish name with lots of history and it is the first name that came to mind when I read your post.
Oisin is also lovely.
Saints names are also used commonly in Ireland so Luke, Matthew etc
I will also suggest Cian, Cillian, Rian, Tomas ...

Millie2008 · 18/11/2019 00:23

Thanks for the insight @Evanna13 - I was beginning to wonder whether Finley wasn’t so much of a traditional Irish name. Is the history of the name Finn mainly associated with the legend (which I love btw!)?
Yes, my DP and all his siblings have saint names so I think this is what he associates with Irish names. Really like both Oisin and Cian - but got worried that the pronunciation might be a struggle over here...

LOVE Oscar

autumnkate · 18/11/2019 06:45

Finley isn’t Irish. FInbar, Fintan and Finn are Irish.

Millie2008 · 18/11/2019 10:26

Thanks @autumnkate - beginning to realise this!!
