DP and I are really struggling to agree on a name for DS2! DS1 is Albie, so would obvs like it to go with this.
Ideas so far:
Oscar (I love this name but DP worried it might be a bit "posh"!)
Finley/Finlay (I worry that this might not go with Albie)
Ronan (DP likes this name but I worry about the Keating association!)
Keen if possible for an Irish connection as DP is Irish and has a very Irish surname (which will be DS2's surname)
Any honest thoughts appreciated :-)

Is he Albie or Albert/Alban with Albie as a nn?

MayFayner · 15/11/2019 19:00

I’m early 40s OP

My thoughts and opinions will be of zero relevance to your DS and his contemporaries, so I should probably keep them to myself 😂

Millie2008 · 15/11/2019 19:00

He’s just Albie

How about

Logan or Patrick/Paddy?

user1493494961 · 15/11/2019 19:22

Oscar Wilde was Irish. I don't automatically think of Ronan Keating, just not keen on the sound.

Millie2008 · 15/11/2019 20:23

Fair do’s!

Ha ha! Well @MayFayner I'm mid 30's so your thoughts and opinions are of relevance to me! Grin

Quite like Logan @Thanksgiving2019 - but thought this was a Scottish name?

I'd be more worried about the Ronan the Accuser connection.

Have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy?!

Bananablueberry · 15/11/2019 21:11

I love Finlay & Finn but don't like it spelt Finley - I think Oscar and Albie sound really good together though

Millie2008 · 15/11/2019 21:29

No @MrsBertBibby! Off to google now though... !

@Bananablueberry - I totally agree that Albie and Oscar go well together Smile Do you think Albie and Finlay sounds a bit odd?

OP posts:
Bananablueberry · 15/11/2019 21:56

I'm a bit biased because I absolutely love the name Finlay but I think it goes fine. I pronounce it like Fin-lay rather than Fin-lee so I don't think they're too matchy

Bananablueberry · 15/11/2019 22:03

I also know an Oscar in his 20s who isn't remotely posh

MidnightMystery · 15/11/2019 22:06

Conor

Astronica · 15/11/2019 22:20

I really like Ronan, Oscar and Finn (but not so much Finley/Finlay). They'd all work next to Albie.

Millie2008 · 15/11/2019 22:21

Ah ok @Bananablueberry - that’s interesting re the pronunciation - I assumed Finley and Finlay would be pronounced the same, but I see what you mean; Fin - lay would be less similar

Quinn ?

MissHenty · 15/11/2019 23:41

I love Oscar!!

How about miles or Rex or Eli or Ellis?

Sorry I really don’t like Ronan and not because of Ronan Keating 🤣, it’s just far too similar to the names RoMan and RoWan and those were the two fastest rising boys names in the top 100 this year so they all get muddled up as just too similar. A couple of years ago I don’t think it would have been an issue @Millie2008 but there’s so many RoMans now (it’s come from nowhere to now be a top 50 name and it catapults up the charts each year that it looks set to be top 20 or top 10 in no time). I think people will constantly mishear the name RoNan and assume you said RoMan as the name RoMan is so much more common, people will just assume your son is another roman.

There’s 2 RoMans in my son’s little class at nursery plus a Rowan and a RoNan, so you can imagine it gets very confusing! It depends if it bothers you or not x

MissHenty · 15/11/2019 23:43

Ps. Oscar absolutely is not a posh name these days. It’s a name suitable for everyone. There’s a Rupert on our local council estate- names just aren’t segregating like they used to be!

ojo821 · 16/11/2019 06:13

I prefer Finley/Finlay but I don’t mind Oscar either (wouldn’t consider it posh).

I’m another one who made the Ronan the Accuser connection!

Ellmau · 16/11/2019 11:03

I like Oscar. I don't think Finley flows with Albie very well. Finn would be OK (or what about Flynn?) Or Fintan is an Irish boys' name which might work for you.

Or what about:
Patrick
Oisin
Cormac

NoSauce · 16/11/2019 11:25

I don’t like matching ie/y names personally. So I wouldn’t use Finley. Finn is good though, Oscar, Jude, Gabriel, Luca would also be nice with Albie.

Millie2008 · 16/11/2019 22:57

@MissHenty - hmm, good point re the influx of Roman’s- a name I’m really not keen on (which is odd given I like the very similar name Ronan!!).
I must say, I’m surprised there’s a Rupert on your local council estate - I grew up on one and can’t imagine that going down too well 😂 just shows how times have changed though...
