Love Rhys!! I'm not sure how previous posters can say these names are for naughty children, I know several Rhys' and 2 Masons and all are lovely- extremely harsh to label a name naughty IMO

I prefer Rhys much more

Have you got a third choice?

I have a Rhys, I'm neither Welsh nor live in Wales and he's not a 'naughty' boy either.

It's a lovely name

Oh god the 'naughty boy" chestnut again. Hmm

Rhys. I know of plenty of boys outside Wales called Rhys, with this spelling too.

Rhys if you're Welsh. Otherwise look for another name.

Rhys is a good name. I'm not keen on surnames used as first names so a no to Mason.

elp30 · 23/10/2019 14:29

I have a Rhys for a nephew and Mason for a grandson so I like both names. But I prefer Mason.

Loving all the post telling you you have to be Welsh to name a kid rhys Grin
Didn't realise MN was full of name police.

As someone who IS Welsh I wouldn't ever be offended or upset if someone who isn't Welsh to name their child with a Welsh name. So what?!

Why would any one care?

I'd definitely go with Rhys

Rhys, by miles. And you don’t have to be Welsh. And don’t spell it Reece or Reese.

Report
MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2019 17:44

I said if you are Welsh, because the Welsh name is great but I don't like the Reece pronunciation.

If she had asked Rees or Mason, I'd have said Rees.

I think that it's a bit naff to use a name from a different language or culture.

Rhys only if Welsh and esp if ginger.
The only Masons I know put me right off.

Mason is someone who carves stone. Or a type of jar.

So I’d go for Rhys.
