What do people think of Shoshana, I'm really warming to it. DH is on the fence but a favourite aunt had this name so is warming too.

Lovely name Smile

Think it's more common in the US than the UK

@NonUrinatInVentum that made me LOL

FlyingSquid · 13/10/2019 19:36

The one we know pronounces it Sho-SHAH-na (she’s Jewish American). I’d just assumed that was standard.

nearlyfullycooked · 13/10/2019 22:30

This name is on my shortlist!

DisappointingBanana · 14/10/2019 07:59

Another who thinks it sounds a bit drunk and slurry, sorry.

Susanna is nice though.

BigFatLiar · 14/10/2019 08:09

Like it. Never seen Inglorious bastards but it was the name of the ai in a sci-fi film.
If you like it use it.

Shosha1 · 14/10/2019 08:23

No. See user name. No no

jay55 · 14/10/2019 09:29

Love it, but big fan of Shoshana Bean

MamTDM · 14/10/2019 11:34

We have a Shoshannah in the family. Mostly goes by Shosh but pronounces her full name 'ShoshOHna'

EssentialHummus · 14/10/2019 11:37

I’m Jewish and dislike it.

AutumnRose1 · 14/10/2019 11:40

I've got lots of sshhhh in my name and hate it.

Tavannach · 14/10/2019 11:40

I like it.
Rory Stewart's wife is called Shoshana I think.

FizzyGreenWater · 14/10/2019 12:28

Too many 'sh' sounds. I think of the Inglourious character too and that's a good association, but the name just seems too fussy to me.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/10/2019 19:57

I really like it

Kittykatmacbill · 15/10/2019 20:04

I really like it.

Kublai · 19/10/2019 14:07

I like it but it isn’t really a name that has crossed over from its origins and used in a lot of cultures. If I met a Shoshana or Noam I would assume Jewish (if I met a Rebecca or Adam I would not make any assumptions). Also love Susannah, Anna, Hannah.

Aozora13 · 19/10/2019 14:11

I love it

Liverbird77 · 19/10/2019 20:43

I love it. As for the Jewish issue, what about all the non-Jewish Ruths, Sarahs, Hannahs, Rachel's etc?

Savingforarainyday · 19/10/2019 20:50

Wtf is wrong with it being a Jewish name?
Leah, Jacob, Joseph.... all from the Hebrew bible.
Sheesh.

I love Shoshanna - And Shaina / Shayna

3rdNamechange · 19/10/2019 20:59

I love it

Bluerussian · 19/10/2019 21:01

It's OK. The popular meaning is 'Popular', but it comes from a Hebrew word meaning 'lily'. It's a well known name in Israel, an exotic form of Susannah.

Up to you, I've heard plenty worse names. If you shorten it to a nickname, use Shana and not Shosh.

Fishcakey · 19/10/2019 21:41

I don't like it. It reminds me of something or someone; can't put my finger on what.

EssentialHummus · 20/10/2019 10:32

There’s nothing wrong with it being a Jewish name but to quote a PP it isn’t really a name that has crossed over from its origins and used in a lot of cultures.

Liverbird77 · 20/10/2019 11:21

By the way, in case my prior post is misinterpreted, I want to say that I love the name and have no issue with its Jewish origin. I was just responding to prior posts that had said it was an issue, and pointing out that many Jewish names are chosen by non- Jewish people.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 20/10/2019 11:34

bluerussian that's slightly offensive, it's not exotic. It's the original form

Bluerussian · 21/10/2019 01:27

I'm so sorry, Rainbow. I googled and that's what I found.

Well I should know you can't believe everything you read on the 'net.

I love Hebrew names, called my son by one. Daniel, David, Matthew, Gideon - Rachel, Sarah, Phoebe, Elizabeth - love them all.
