Shoshana, yes, no or maybe?

What do people think of Shoshana, I'm really warming to it. DH is on the fence but a favourite aunt had this name so is warming too.

The one we know pronounces it Sho-SHAH-na (she’s Jewish American). I’d just assumed that was standard.

We have a Shoshannah in the family. Mostly goes by Shosh but pronounces her full name 'ShoshOHna'

Too many 'sh' sounds. I think of the Inglourious character too and that's a good association, but the name just seems too fussy to me.

I like it but it isn’t really a name that has crossed over from its origins and used in a lot of cultures. If I met a Shoshana or Noam I would assume Jewish (if I met a Rebecca or Adam I would not make any assumptions). Also love Susannah, Anna, Hannah.

It's OK. The popular meaning is 'Popular', but it comes from a Hebrew word meaning 'lily'. It's a well known name in Israel, an exotic form of Susannah.

Up to you, I've heard plenty worse names. If you shorten it to a nickname, use Shana and not Shosh.

There’s nothing wrong with it being a Jewish name but to quote a PP it isn’t really a name that has crossed over from its origins and used in a lot of cultures.

By the way, in case my prior post is misinterpreted, I want to say that I love the name and have no issue with its Jewish origin. I was just responding to prior posts that had said it was an issue, and pointing out that many Jewish names are chosen by non- Jewish people.

I love Hebrew names, called my son by one. Daniel, David, Matthew, Gideon - Rachel, Sarah, Phoebe, Elizabeth - love them all.
