What do people think of Shoshana, I'm really warming to it. DH is on the fence but a favourite aunt had this name so is warming too.

Reminds me of the Shoshone Indian tribe.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 13/10/2019 05:21

Beautiful Jewish name. It's Susan in Hebrew. In reality not different from Hannah = Anne

FoodWoes · 13/10/2019 05:41

Sean connery 😂😂😂

It's awful.

grumpypregnanttired · 13/10/2019 05:43

I really want to like it because I’d love to make my daughter after the amazing character from Inglorious Basterds! But I just can’t quite get my head around if.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/10/2019 06:06

It is very Jewish. Not that that matters necessarily but if you're not Jewish people might expect you to be, iyswim.

Shantotto · 13/10/2019 06:10

I love it but again huge Girls fan here.

SpeciesOfSpaces · 13/10/2019 06:17

This is getting a bit culturally insensitive, no? It’s a Hebrew word. Means ‘Rose’ and = Susan. Would we be saying the same of Fatma? (Awful. Sounds like someone taking the piss out of your mum, etc...) I think it’s lovely OP! and yes, Jewish, but not too different from Esther, Ruth, etc.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/10/2019 06:19

I've not heard it before. I'm not sure what I think but if you like it, go for it.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 13/10/2019 06:36

@SpeciesOfSpaces a bit! I'm Jewish . My name (with surname) means "we all sing together" in Hebrew. Obviously my parents had a laugh when they chose it but I like the meaning. I'm sure if my DM had MN 35 years ago the comments would have been ver similar.

KatherineJaneway · 13/10/2019 06:44

Big no from me.

daisypond · 13/10/2019 06:49

I like it. Traditional ancient name. I only know one, but she is from Israel. You could consider the anglicised form of Susannah, but both are nice.

PenelopeFlintstone · 13/10/2019 07:13

I love it.

AverageMummy · 13/10/2019 10:04

I really don’t like it sorry
Susannah is lovely though

percheron67 · 13/10/2019 10:06

Not for me.

Minai · 13/10/2019 10:18

Love it, beautiful name

runoutofnamechanges · 13/10/2019 17:44

Oh and my daughter is Esther which is also seen as a Jewish name.

It's not quite the same. Esther is also a traditional biblical name in English, albeit the name of a Jewish queen, but the Hebrew name Shoshanah is anglicised to Susanna in the English bible.

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 13/10/2019 17:50

I've a friend named Shoshanna, who is Jewish, but chose to go by Rosanna at secondary school, due to the relentless teasing in junior school (UK).
Think carefully op.

Wizzbangpop · 13/10/2019 17:55

Like pps have said, Lovely name and especially if you're Jewish. If not then tread with caution

TeapotsLoveYouLots · 13/10/2019 17:59

Never heard of it before but it's a lovely word to say

Shoshana, shooooooow--shana.

Also Shosh- Anna doesn't sound as nice

ClutchinMahPurrrls · 13/10/2019 17:59

How is it pronounced? Shosh-anna, Show-zanna, or something else?

Notthecarwashagain · 13/10/2019 18:04

Oh it seems very Marmite-y!

I love it, it's DD's middle name.

Notthecarwashagain · 13/10/2019 18:06

I pronounce hers show-shanna.

runoutofnamechanges · 13/10/2019 18:18

In Hebrew it's pronounced shosh-AN-na - shosh rhymes with gosh and the emphasis is on the second syllable.

AmericanLemonade · 13/10/2019 18:21

Love it, but like PPs I am a huge Girls fan

RickOShay · 13/10/2019 18:25

I think it’s a lovely name.
