I am a Hannah, born in the age group where every other child was one Grin.
Currently pregnant with a girl due October 27th and the name of my daughter in my head for years is Savannah.
I know it is not a well-liked name on here by most but I don’t think anything will change my mind - I love it!
But obviously they rhyme severely sad
Do you think I can do it or is it silly? The only other name I like is Violet but it was my dog’s name growing up so that would be a bit odd.
Whilst I’m on the topic, being called Hannah is a pain...
I love names like Rosanna, Annie, Julianna etc but using them sounds stupid!
Wishing I was named Grace now like the other half of girls my age.

You choose a name that you think you will love forever and go with it. Sometimes apparently it’s better to wait and see what name springs to mind when you actually see the baby though.

Wolfiefan · 01/10/2019 23:03

I wouldn’t use it. But not because it rhymes.

OhTheRoses · 01/10/2019 23:04

Hannah is lovely. Savannah is silly, especially with Hannah as a mum. Susannah would be better.

How old are you anyway? Why not call her Grace if you like it so much? Much better than Savannah.

OhTheRoses · 01/10/2019 23:06

I know Hannahs in their 40s, 30s, 20s and teens. V occasional ones. Grace was a thing from about 1990-2000?

MrsJoshNavidi · 01/10/2019 23:09

I know a lady called Gemma who has a daughter called Emma. I always tonight it was a bit odd.

MollyHuaCha · 01/10/2019 23:13

Well, you just need to think of a group of mums seeing you approach with your pushchair.

'Look, here come Hannah and Savannah' (with a banner... and her nana... playing the piano...)

Or

'Look, here come Hannah and Grace'.

I'll go for Grace every time.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 01/10/2019 23:19

Yeah. Don’t do it.

TheMustressMhor · 01/10/2019 23:22

Do you know what? it's absolutely up to you what you name your baby, OP.

If you like the name Savannah (it's lovely btw) then use it. It would not cross my mind to think Mum Hannah, Daughter Savannah is odd. Anyway sod what anyone else thinks.

MissHenty · 01/10/2019 23:30

Hannah @plasticnails are you quite a young mum? I can only remember one hannah at my school

MissHenty · 01/10/2019 23:31
  • but I’m in my 30s. Thinking you must be a lot younger ?
thamesk8 · 01/10/2019 23:38

I like Savannah. Yes it’s rhymey but things could be far worse.
I know a Stacey and her mum is Tracey!

Luaa · 01/10/2019 23:45

I like it and I would notice the rhyming, but I'd not give it much thought.

If you really love it, use it. I didn't use a name for dd2 because of how I thought people would react and I regretted it. When we had dd2 4 years later I still loved it, so used it for her and I've never regretted it.

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 02/10/2019 05:54

I like it! I think Savannah is beautiful too - Susannah is awful and no replacement, I’m always shocked when people suggest using it instead. I wouldn’t care about rhyming.

Bucatini · 02/10/2019 06:00

I know a couple of different people who gave their child a name which rhymes with their own (eg Allie and Ollie). I wouldn’t do it personally, but they obviously thought it was ok!

babycakes1010 · 02/10/2019 06:22

I love Savannah. Had that on my list if I'd had another girl

ElizaElaine16 · 02/10/2019 06:46

Men often share a name with a son. Not sure why this doesn’t happen with women.

So I don’t see why this is a big problem.

NoSauce · 02/10/2019 07:06

No, that’s just daft. Sorry Op.

TwiddleMuff · 02/10/2019 07:11

It’s totally fine. Don’t base your decision on what others think, you’ll tie yourself in knots.

notso · 02/10/2019 07:18

As PP said loads of boys are called exactly the same names as their Fathers so I wouldn't worry too much about rhyming.

What about Sienna though, similar vibe but doesn't rhyme. And much nicer IMO

Apolloanddaphne · 02/10/2019 07:25

I knew someone who called her daughters Hannah and Roxanna. It seemed a bit matchy at the time but after a while it was just their names.

user1493494961 · 02/10/2019 08:09

Go with Violet, it's much nicer than Savannah, only your immediate family will remember about your dog (and then quickly forget).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/10/2019 08:19

I love Savannah

plasticnails · 02/10/2019 09:18

It does sound silly to me but I just can’t see myself finding a name I love as much. Ugh.

I’m 22 and where I grew up, you were either Hannah or Grace :)

There are literally millions of other names out there to choose from, if you think it’s silly then how can you even think about going with it. Fwiw I can’t stand the name and wouldn’t choose it but even more so if I was already called Hannah!
