Corin or Corinne?

Hello,

We are having a girl and had the name Corin picked out for either sex. Problem is the spelling... Really want her to be a Corin not a "Coreen", but prefer the spelling Corinne.

Will it be a nightmare for her having to correct people all the time if shes a Corinne pronounced Corin? Should we just spell it Corin? Will people assume she's a boy with that spelling?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Never heard of Corin but If you want it pronounced that way I’d spell it that way too.

I know at least two Corrins, spelt each way, and neither of them have problems with the spelling. I like the name. Go for it!

I went to school with a Corinne who pronounced it like Corin. She never really had any issues with it.

I would pronounce Corinne as Corin. It looks a lot more attractive spelt that way too

Corin is a boys name associated with spears and Roman gods.

I would use the longer spelling or people are always going to get her sex wrong. I think it will be pronounced the way.

My cousin is a Corinne pronounced Koh-rinn. I have no idea how OP thinks it should be pronounced.

Corin/korin is a boy Corinne is a girl.

To me Corin is a boys name, or a surname, and Corrine is the female equivalent.

I would pronounce Corrine 'corrin'

Corin = KOH rin

Corinne = Koh RINN

The emphasis is the main difference.

I would pronounce Corin and Corinne the same. Slight emphasis on first syllable tand second syllable of both rhymes with tin.
But I know that Corinne could be pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable and the first more of a schwa sound.

An een sound wouldn't cross my mind.

I'd say Corin & Corinne are pronounced exactly the same by English speakers. The only difference is that Corin is a male name & Corinne is female.

Corinne is lovely actually, very unusual. I've only ever met one, who I knew as a child, her mother was French.

The Cor-EEN pronunciation would go with the spelling Corrine, which isn't anywhere near as nice as Corinne.

I think Corinne would be pronounced like Corin and 'looks' nicer.

I have a friend with a Corryn pronounced the same way.

I would pronounce Corin (boy’s name) and Corinne (girl’s name) the same.

Corin is a boy's name isn't it?
The only Corinne I know is pronounced Cor-rin (or at least that's what I've called her without correction in 30 years!) but it's one of those names that people will always pronounce with variations I think.

Ah... my cousin is a co-RINN, then.

I thought maybe OP thought Corinne should be said co-REEN.
I named my kids boring stuff that nobody gets confused how to spell or say it (like Amy & Mark).

I also went to school with a Corinne - we all pronounced her name as Corin - never heard the other variation! Lovely name.
