Names for baby due on Tuesday!

Am due DC2 on Tuesday, we don't know if boy or girl... I've already posted on here about boys names which thankfully we now have sorted! But girls names.... I have a name which I really love, but I'm worried it's too popular and overused, ideally would like to avoid her being one of 3 in her class with same name, but anyway, what do you think of -

Isla Catherine Rose?

Have always loved Isla and was really gutted when it started to get so popular, Catherine is a family name and Rose is special to me for various reasons but don't want to use either as a first name as don't go too well with surname.

Any comments on the name? Thanks ladies!

thats a gorgeous name x

Lovely name.

diddlediddle · 22/09/2019 11:09

It's a lovely name. It's of the time - Isla is very now, as is Rose for a middle name. But depends if you care. I have a very 80s name and I don't mind. She may well be one of three Islas in her class. Or, she may not be. Depends purely on luck of who else names their kid Isla in your area! If it's the name you like you should use it anyway.

I would advise you to choose a name you love. Whatever you choose, there could be another in her class. I have taught classes with two children with the same name, where the name is uncommon. I have never taught a class with two Jacks or Olivers.

missyB1 · 22/09/2019 11:53

I Would choose Catherine as the first name. It’s a very pretty name and not too popular. I work in a school there are quite a few Islas.
Catherine Isla Rose is beautiful.

Morado · 22/09/2019 12:07

It is very popular and overused. Puts me right off but if you don't care, use it.

mondler · 22/09/2019 12:14

I haven't met any baby Islas at groups yet. The ones I know are a little older around 6 and 7. Choose a name you love xx

Loveislandaddict · 22/09/2019 12:57

If you love it, use it!

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2019 12:59

What a beautiful name.

I know Isla is supposed to be very popular, but I've never actually met one.

KatherineJaneway · 22/09/2019 13:02

Tegan Catherine Rose might be a good alternative?

1ToughCookie · 22/09/2019 14:30

I love the name. It's timeless in my opinion

Charlesandfred · 22/09/2019 14:53

Too many Isla's around. I personally know 3. Catherine Rose is lovely.

AverageMummy · 22/09/2019 14:56

It’s 0.5% of babies which would have been more like a top 30 name in our generation. It’s a beautiful name & I think go for it!

Fivebeanchilli · 22/09/2019 15:08

It's a lovely name.
Yes it's popular but she might never meet another.
My DD had a very popular name (I had no idea at the time we chose it) but there was only one other in her primary school (different year) and she doesn't have another in her year at secondary school (year group of 220+).
In ds's primary school year group - with 14 boys - there were two with the same very very unusual name (think Cosmo H and Cosmo D). Both sets of those parents were gutted as they had assumed their son would be the only one.
If you love it, go for it.

Chirpychirpy3 · 22/09/2019 15:11

I know quite a few Islas and I think it’s only going to get more popular.
I prefer Catherine. Lovely name.

Morado · 22/09/2019 15:48

It's the type of name where I'd say "awwh nice" but inside I'm rolling my eyes. I know a few and hear it being called plenty when out and about.

finallychangedmyusername · 22/09/2019 15:57

If you really want to avoid your DD being one of three in a class then you really need to avoid Isla. There's three in DS's year at infant school. And I know of so many younger Islas too.
Additionally, Rose is arguably the most popular middle name of the moment.

CleanAndPaidFor · 22/09/2019 15:57

So long as your surname isn't White, go for it. It's a lovely name.

mistermagpie · 22/09/2019 16:11

Do you live in Scotland? If you do I'd really try to think of something other than Isla. It's a gorgeous name but every second little girl seems to be called that. Not sure if it's quite as popular elsewhere though but it's certainly the 'olivia' of where I live.

Indecisivelurcher · 22/09/2019 16:59

I have an Isla Rose! I also nearly didn't use it because it became popular right when she was born - she's 5 next month. But we had loved it all through pregnancy so we decided to go ahead. I have met a couple of other Isla's. But there were no other Isla's in her preschool, and there are no others in her class of 35 having just started school.

Indecisivelurcher · 22/09/2019 17:03

If I am very very very honest then I sort of wish we had chosen Bella or Rosy (others on our list) or DH had picked one of the other middle names on my list. And I do inwardly wince when I hear other Isla's and kind of avoid them.

bringbacksideburns · 22/09/2019 17:03

I think it's lovely.

It's my daughter's favourite name and she's adamant that's what she will call her daughter if she's ever a mum.

Love the middle names too.

Makes a change because there have been some bloody awful pretentious names on threads on MN before.

Indecisivelurcher · 22/09/2019 17:04

I also wonder how it will date. This is being brutal though. We chose it because we love it. I just wish everyone else didn't also love it!

bridgetreilly · 22/09/2019 17:15

I'd be surprised if there were three in her class. I think it was more popular four or five years back.

catlike1979 · 22/09/2019 17:35

Thanks for replies so far ladies, we're not in Scotland and I have heard that Isla is very popular there. We're in north London and amazingly I've not heard one called out or met a single one yet, and I go to lots of playgroups, nursery etc with DS!
