Am due DC2 on Tuesday, we don't know if boy or girl... I've already posted on here about boys names which thankfully we now have sorted! But girls names.... I have a name which I really love, but I'm worried it's too popular and overused, ideally would like to avoid her being one of 3 in her class with same name, but anyway, what do you think of -

Isla Catherine Rose?

Have always loved Isla and was really gutted when it started to get so popular, Catherine is a family name and Rose is special to me for various reasons but don't want to use either as a first name as don't go too well with surname.

Any comments on the name? Thanks ladies!

It’s a lovely name, popular for a reason.
However, there are gazillions of Islas, if that is going to bother you.

fsk53 · 22/09/2019 21:57

Don't be put off by the popularity of the name if you like it. I was persuaded that Jacob was too popular and will regret it until I die.

NoSauce · 22/09/2019 22:17

I would choose Rose first.

Fivebeanchilli · 22/09/2019 22:23

Also in North London. I think it's peaked in popularity here and is decreasing again.

Mamasaurus82 · 23/09/2019 07:19

That's a beautiful name! Smile

TwinMumma2 · 23/09/2019 07:27

Isla is very popular where we live...off hand I know 5. Would you consider Isla as a mn? Maybe change Catherine slightly but still have all 3.. ?
Kitty-Rose Isla ....... ?

fsk53 · 23/09/2019 07:35

Just call her Ingrid. There are no others and I absolutely love it. It means hero's daughter.

Horseshoe1 · 23/09/2019 08:04

My daughter is 3 and am yet to meet an Isla at play groups / nursery etc. I expect it peaked quite a few years ago. The only one I know is 11. I really wouldn’t drop it for that reason - it’s very pretty. Good luck on Tuesday!

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/09/2019 08:12

My daughter is Evelyn on her BC but known as Effie day to day. Evelyn is ranked 19 and I have never met another one. Effie is 236th and there is another one in her dance class.

You can’t predict these things so you’re better off giving her a name you love than worrying about popularity.

catlike1979 · 23/09/2019 09:01

The other name I really love is Orla, which sounds similar to Isla I guess and is less popular, however our surname is Head and I don't think we can use it? Orla Head, sounding like "all ahead", as in, off we go!

Do people agree that Orla wouldn't work??

By that method, your chosen name says "Aisle ahead" OP!

TwinMumma2 · 23/09/2019 09:32

I think Orla would work. What about Ayla (I know 2, one pronounced Isla and one pronounced as it sounds) x

KondoKonvert · 23/09/2019 09:47

I don't think Orla Head works...a mistype of orla is oral.

Indecisivelurcher · 23/09/2019 10:03

Hello op, coming back to say, I think for me I've let the fear of Isla Rose being too popular cloud my feelings about my daughters name. I've been thinking about it since I replied to your post at the weekend, and that's just daft isn't it because in reality, we have not met many other Isla's!

If you love it then go for it.

If you're always going to be worrying its too popular (as I seem to be, 5yrs later 🤦🏻‍♀️) then choose something different. I don't think Orla works with your surname. How about Leila or Freya for a similar sound.

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 11:45

Isla is declining in popularity @catlike1979 so I think that’s why you’re coming across less @catlike1979

It’s a GORGEOUS name. I don’t know any under 2 round here

The names been declining since 2014 (ie for the past 5 years). So it’s no where near as popular as it once was

That decline looks set to continue so by the time your baby is born it’ll be even less popular

Check the graph

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 11:46

@Indecisivelurcher what’s your child’s name if you don’t mind me asking

Indecisivelurcher · 23/09/2019 11:49

Isla Rose, the same as the op is thinking of :)

Untamedtoad · 23/09/2019 12:31

We know alot of Islas born recently. Like, probably can think of at least 6 or 7 in the past 3 years. 2 really good friends both have one. But maybe it's had its "peak" and this year there won't be as many, meaning although it's popular, it won't be so common in your dds year? Who knows. We have an Eliza, and shortly after she was born I heard the nam mentioned everywhere, but we've actually only been in the same music class as one, and there's not another in her preschool or primary.

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 17:51

@Untamedtoad it’s definitely past it’s peak. The statistics speak for themselves. It peaked 5 years ago and has fallen a lot since then. I actually haven’t met any Islas recently. There’s one at my sons school who is 5 but none others

See graph of the statistics :

What are your thoughts OP @catlike1979

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 17:52

@Indecisivelurcher ah so you picked Isla at it’s peak popularity and even you have hardly met another one!! It’s dramatically decreasing now so you’ll come across even less (see graph above if interested)

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 19:03

@fsk53 ah sorry to hear you regret not using Jackson. Mind me asking what you chose instead? Is it too late to change?

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 19:03
  • Jacob not Jackson
fsk53 · 23/09/2019 19:07

We had along and difficult journey to agree on Sebastian, which neither of us wanted. I think my real frustration was OH rebuffing every suggestion without making any himself!

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 19:10

@fsk53 I feel your pain, is it to late to change, is that even a possibility
