Alliteration first and last name not sure if it’s too weird.

So we decided on a name a long time ago as Henry. However our surname also begins with a H. We’re unsure if this will sound too weird for our baby but we don’t really like any other names and everyone has called him Henry since about month 4 of my pregnancy. What is everyone else’s opinions ?

not sure but we are in exactly the same situation so following this thread!

FatAndFurious7 · 15/09/2019 12:57

So long as your surname isn't Hover then I dont see a problem at all. My name, my sisters and my mums name are all alliterated and never even really thought about it. Certainly never been a problem or been teased etc.. for it

Ricekrispie22 · 15/09/2019 12:57

Boris Becker
Robert Redford
Danny Devito
Lindsay Lohan
Jesse James
Danny Dyer
Leona Lewis
Ryan Reynolds

Etc etc... alliterations are memorable and can be really effective. Not weird at all. I’d draw the like at something like David Davison though!

MikeUniformMike · 15/09/2019 13:38

Ideal if your surname is Higgins,

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/09/2019 13:43

Mostly they are fine, sometimes they aren’t. We’d need to know the surname.

Sam Smith
Laurie Lee
Steve Smith
Arthur Ashe
Charlotte Church

All those plus the pp has named are fine imo.

Jacksback · 15/09/2019 13:45

Marilyn Monroe
It will be fine you are over thinking it

BogglesGoggles · 15/09/2019 13:46

I like it actually.

SallyLovesCheese · 15/09/2019 13:48

I have an alliterative name. It's fine.

I completely agree.

This is also the issue with being impatient and telling people what name you want so early in the pregnancy !!

Morado · 15/09/2019 14:14

My DD has an alliterated name and I did it sort of on purpose! I love it!

Charlotte Church doesn't really count though as its a Sh and Ch sound.

Frith2013 · 15/09/2019 14:32

Melinda Messenger has done ok!

It’s not a problem for me. Unless your surname is Hoover...

mummythedoctor · 15/09/2019 14:33

I know a Lewis Lewis. As long as it's not something like that you're completely fine.

Bol87 · 15/09/2019 15:32

My daughter is alliterated. Not on purpose but it makes her name quite memorable and ringy! Smile

My mums married name is actually too, never really thought about it before but it is! I don’t think it’s anything to worry about at all, unless it’s basically the same twice!

harvey30 · 15/09/2019 15:33

Crawley65 · 15/09/2019 15:37

I think it makes it memorable. I always remember a girl at school called Holly Hartley, just for the alliteration of her name.

Hecateh · 15/09/2019 15:50

I was at school with a John Johnson which I think was a step too far - but it didn't seem to be a problem to him.

Others, yeah - absolutely fine

firstimemamma · 15/09/2019 16:03

I used to work as a supply teacher so I've seen countless full names on registers. I can safely say loads of people have their first and surnames beginning with the same letter, it's not weird! Very normal. Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

AstridAsterson · 15/09/2019 16:08

Henry Hopkinson - fine
Henry Henderson - not fine

Henry Hudson - fine
Henry Harrison - not fine

etc.

What's the surname?

Scienceandcats · 15/09/2019 17:01

The surname is Hudson so Henry Hudson. Personally I think it’s nice but my OH had a bit of a wobble and thought we should change his name. Also apparently lots of people call their dogs Henry.

Very Edwardian
Beatrice Bessie Battiscombe & Aurelia Amelia are genuine Edwardians

I think it’s perfectly fine when not quite as extreme !

CharminglyGawky · 15/09/2019 18:32

I have an alliterative name since marriage, it's fine nobody cares! Mine are Hs as well and Our wedding venue had a triple barrelled name all Hs as well, my dad took great pleasure in saying "Mrs H... H.... of H.... H... H..." as many times as he could get it into conversation but that was the first and last time anybody has even mentioned it!

Henry is a brilliant name!

Kanga83 · 15/09/2019 18:46

Personally not a fan of them at all - they always sound cartoony to me, I avoided them deliberately. Not a fan of rhyming names with surnames either. It's personal preference though for what you would like.

IckleBear · 15/09/2019 20:42

It's usually fine and sounds quite nice

DramaAlpaca · 15/09/2019 21:07

It's great with the surname. Don't overthink it.

MrsKCastle · 15/09/2019 21:17

Alliteration is quite 'in' at the moment. My class last year had 5 or 6 alliterative names out of 30. I don't normally notice, but it was unusual to see so many!
