Lavinia girls name?

What do you think of the name Lavinia?

I'm aware of the unfortunate Lavinia in the Shakespeare play, but feel like we can look past that since we had never heard of the play before, so doubt many others will make the connection.

Other names we have in mind are Georgina, and Sunny. We like Annie too but know quite a few Annies already. I keep falling in love with a particular name and then after a few days it just falls flat.

Middle name will most likely be Olive, since I'd like to use my grandmother's name

Last name is one syllable

Also open to other suggestions! I don't like anything that's extremely trendy right now.

Thanks everyone! Smile

Really don't like Lavinia. Sorry.

What is the surname initial? O as a middle name initial is asking for trouble! Love Olive, btw.

Sunny isn't a name! Georgina is a bit stuffy. Anna is much nicer than Annie, imo. Love Anna.

Marjolaine?

NannyR · 11/09/2019 10:45

It reminds me of the horrible girl in the book "the little princess", only a problem if you've read the book though (it was a chilfhood favourite of mine)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/09/2019 10:49

I saw a mum refer to her daughter Lavinia on Facebook recently. It really jarred to see a toddler with that name.

Its about the most old-lady name I can think of, aside from the Ethels and Dorises that people don't use.

And of course it'll be shortened to Lav or Lavvy, which is grim.

7Worfs · 11/09/2019 10:53

I really like Georgina and Georgiana

Saharafordessert · 11/09/2019 10:53

Drop Lavinia and go for Olive, classic, classy and lovely.

BooLooBoo · 11/09/2019 10:55

I like it op.

BykerBykerOoh · 11/09/2019 10:56

I really don’t like Lavinia sorry. It reminds me of lavatories. Sunny is a great name - but sunny olive isn’t great. Olive is lovely as a first name too.

Youmeandthesea · 11/09/2019 11:08

Thanks for your input everyone, it's helpful.

If we chose Sunny then Olive wouldn't be the middle name, unsure of middle name for Sunny. We have somewhat gone off Sunny, but every now and then we like it again. I like that it always has positive associations.

Mainly like Georgina because I love the nn Georgie.

I love Olive too, and would consider as a first name, but worried that it is too close to the extremely popular Olivia? I have been seeing Olive on "popular names lists" lately, which puts me off.

Once I mull a name over for a while it seems to fall flat every time.

I like Constance (Connie) but my husband does not. Not sure if say I'm in love with it though.

There's a strong possibility I am overthinking the whole name thing! I have a very common name, always at least two other in the class, and that has never bothered me

How about Verity? Verity Olive. I like the V sounds!

userabcname · 11/09/2019 11:16

I don't like Lavinia - similar-ish names like Lydia or Leila are nice though? I love Georgina so that's my favourite of your list. Vivienne?

Morado · 11/09/2019 11:19

Also makes me think of the mean girl from A Little Princess! It's a lovely name regardless though.

romylee · 11/09/2019 11:23

I know a Lavinia her sister is Alessandra they are both beautiful names
I also like Tatiana and Valentina which are similar to Lavinia

Youmeandthesea · 11/09/2019 11:32

Oh I like Valentina! I will suggest it to my husband

fruitbrewhaha · 11/09/2019 11:43

Valentina Olive is a good name.
or Valerine is nice

Shockers · 11/09/2019 11:49

It makes me think of lavatories and labias- I’m sorry.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/09/2019 11:58

lavatories and labias
Good name for a new lesbian bar though! Grin

FatherFintanFay · 11/09/2019 12:04

I like Lavinia - I had a great great aunt with this name (only technically, since she died before I was born) and apparently it was shortened to Vin, not Lav or Lavvy.

It is actually a Roman name, so if you like that vibe there is also Claudia, Julia, Valeria, Antonia, Gaia, Lucia/Lucilla, or Livia. Could go leftfield with Drusilla or Calpurnia Grin.

If you like Georgie, you could go for Georgia instead of Georgina, although I prefer the latter slightly.

Olive makes me think of the one from On The Buses, unfortunately.

Sophronia · 11/09/2019 12:06

Susannah can have both Sunny and Annie as nicknames, do you like that?

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/09/2019 12:09

Not keen on Lavinia- only ever known one and she wasn't very nice!!

Olive is lovely.

daisypond · 11/09/2019 12:24

Lavinia is OK actually. It could grow on me. I’m put off by thinking of the inevitable nickname of Lav but maybe you could push Vinnia or Vinnie.

Petrichor11 · 11/09/2019 12:28

My first thought was Won Won and Lav Lav (Harry Potter and the half blood prince)

Georgina or Annie are much much nicer

NannyR · 11/09/2019 12:56

What about Laetitia? Could have Letty as a pet name which is quite sweet.

user1493494961 · 11/09/2019 14:00

Not keen on Lavinia and agree with pp Sunny Isn't a name. Georgina is OK.
