Lavinia girls name?

What do you think of the name Lavinia?

I'm aware of the unfortunate Lavinia in the Shakespeare play, but feel like we can look past that since we had never heard of the play before, so doubt many others will make the connection.

Other names we have in mind are Georgina, and Sunny. We like Annie too but know quite a few Annies already. I keep falling in love with a particular name and then after a few days it just falls flat.

Middle name will most likely be Olive, since I'd like to use my grandmother's name

Last name is one syllable

Also open to other suggestions! I don't like anything that's extremely trendy right now.

Thanks everyone! Smile

I loved the name... we know one... however my daughter thought it was the lyrics to the lion king song "ah Lavinia..."

My grandma was a Lavinia, known as Vin.

If you like Sunny and Lavinia, how about the Scandinavian name Sunniva?

It sounds like the name of a climbing shrub but it’s ok.

The fact that you could be called lav Confused I don’t like lavender for the same reason

The mean girl in ‘A Little Princess’ - although it sounds quite nice I can’t help but picture a little brat tbh.

Lavinia is ok - prefer Meredith. How about Minerva?

For what it's worth, I love Lavinia! It was one of my suggestions but was vetoed by DH. Other favourites of mine were:
Ursula
Delilah
Vivienne
Meredith

Good luck op!

@VioletShrinking good point! I don't mind too much if people like the name or not, I was just hoping you all would help my indecision, it is interesting to hear all the different opinions!

I don't mind Lavinia, I also know someone with a Lavinia who is know as Livi.

I like Cadence, similar to Constance?

And I LOVE Meredith and Merri. I also love Gwyneth.

My children have somewhat unusual names and to be honest, I don't care if anyone else likes them!

I much prefer Lavinia to Meredith. Meredith is one of those names that’s a boy’s name and tends to be pronounced wrongly.

Lavinia will always be Lavinia Kerwick to me. She was very brave but sad story that I will always associate with the name.

I think the name Livia is beautiful though.

Also love Valentina but inevitable nicknames 'val'' and ''Tina'' are a bit more ordinary than Valentina.

I'm loving the suggestions, thanks everyone! I'm going to throw another one in there that I just thought of- what do you think of Meredith? I'm liking Merri as a nn

Lavinia is a gorgeous Roman name. I love it!

It's the Lav at the beginning of Lavinia that is offputting. Lavvy isn't a good name for a teenager.

Nothing wrong with Lavinia itself but the inevitable shortenings of Lav and Lavvie would put me off I'm afraid.

@Bbq1 I do like Anne, but not sure it sounds great with our surname, Anne Wing.
