What do you think of Rupert and Jasper for a boy?
Heard both recently and they sounded different but also feel both fit well with older brother Noah.
Thanks.

Rupert I think has become synonymous with "simpleton/clueless posh boy." I've heard DS and his peers call other boys that (at private school). Think the updated version of Tim Nice But Dim.

Jasper = Carrott.

Sorry OP.

ProperVexed · 03/09/2019 17:36

Both lovely.....Rupert is my favourite of the two (and was on my list but vetoed by DH)

daisypond · 03/09/2019 17:36

I like Rupert and Jasper is OK. I don’t think either go with Noah, though.

doadeer · 03/09/2019 17:43

Not my cup of tea at all! But each to their own!

Peachbubble · 03/09/2019 17:56

I like both names. I know a 10 year old Rupert, nn Roo.

SwizzelStick · 03/09/2019 18:00

I love Jasper but Rupert is dreadful.

AverageMummy · 03/09/2019 18:09

I love Rupert but round here Jasper is a term for wasp which would put me off a little

DrDreReturns · 03/09/2019 18:11

Both very posh names imo. (One of my besties is a Rupert but he is posh!)

Bananaboy9 · 03/09/2019 18:15

I love jasper
Rupert will become ‘Rupes’ which is horrible

Bananaboy9 · 03/09/2019 18:15

Jasper means wasp where I live as well and that definitely wouldn’t put me off

Emelene · 03/09/2019 18:17

I know a little Rufus which is pretty cute!

Supergrassyknoll · 03/09/2019 18:29

Not really keen on either tbh, sorry

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 03/09/2019 18:37

I think the world needs more jaspers

FatherFintanFay · 03/09/2019 18:38

A Rupert is army slang for an officer who has come through Sandhurst. For me, it's the name of a chinless posh boy with mimsy blond hair, or that boy's sister's pony. I'm not a fan, if you hadn't guessed.

Jasper is better but it's quite harsh-sounding. I don't think it goes with Noah either. Rufus is nice, though, as suggested above. Or Reuben?

notso · 03/09/2019 18:45

The soppy bear has put me off Rupert forever.
I like Jasper.

noahsmum2016 · 03/09/2019 18:48

What would you all think to Caspian for a boy?

OP posts:
Sleepyhead19 · 03/09/2019 18:49

I really like Rupert but I have already been told that’s a definite no from the baby’s dad.
Caspian is nice x

HotChocolateLover · 03/09/2019 18:51

A bit ‘try to hard’

Rachelover40 · 03/09/2019 18:52

I like both names. I've known several Ruperts and none of them were considered dim - in any case, that is only banter and most of us get that at some stage. Jasper is nice too.

HotChocolateLover · 03/09/2019 18:52

*too

user1493494961 · 03/09/2019 19:07

Not keen on either, nor Caspian, it's a sea.

Bananaboy9 · 03/09/2019 19:16

I like Caspian but Jasper is by far the best

SwizzelStick · 03/09/2019 19:17

I love Caspian.

rosieposey · 03/09/2019 19:24

How about Caspar? I have one and it suits him beautifully.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 03/09/2019 19:27

How about Robert or Robin as alternative R names? I like Caspar too but how about Charles (not Charlie) or Simon?
