I think it is so sweet for a baby/ little girl but not so sure about a grown up? We also have an Edie. Any similar alternatives also appreciated.

I love it too, one of my favourite names.

Onebrokentoe · 25/08/2019 06:00

Gorgeous for a baby, but not sure an adult would love it. It’s short for Katherine so maybe go with that and use Kitty as a nn.

AverageMummy · 25/08/2019 06:02

Nickname for Katherine so maybe use that? Not all adults would thank you if they had to apply for jobs etc as Kitty

HeronLanyon · 25/08/2019 06:26

I know an adult kitty - did not know her as a child. i like the name. It’s never carried ‘kitty/cat’ connotations or seemed sweet - interestingly it’s always felt like a ‘proper’’ lovely adult name to me.
I think I would use Katherine on bc (prefer it with a c but not for kitty - confusing to have different initials for name and permanent nickname).

myidentitymycrisis · 25/08/2019 06:29

I had a great aunt Kitty also called Kit. I would imagine it said Katherine on BC.

Oneforposy7 · 25/08/2019 06:30

Really lovely as a nickname for Katherine.

Grufallosfriends · 25/08/2019 07:16

Katherine is nice but Kitty is very cutesy and Kitty Cat 🐈.

SegregateMumBev · 25/08/2019 07:18

I had a great aunt Kitty, it's a lovely name.

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2019 07:21

I know 2 people called Kitty. One of them is 6, and it’s a nickname for Caitlyn. One of them is actually dead, but she would have been about 105 and it was a nickname for Kirsten.

Proseccoinamug · 25/08/2019 09:27

I know a Kitty Rose. She’s lovely. I wouldn’t use Katherine if you’re going to call her Kitty. My parents did similar to me and it caused endless confusion. I changed it by deed poll to the version I was known by as an adult but that still leaves a confusing trail of previous names. It’s such a pain being known by one name and having another on your bc.

Proseccoinamug · 25/08/2019 09:27

Lovely name.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 25/08/2019 09:31

That was on our list for DS, when we thought he might be a DD. I still love it.

Funnily enough he has a delightful Kitty in his class secretly hoping they'll date one day ha!
So there would've been two Kittys in that class but I've not come across another.

BykerBykerOoh · 25/08/2019 09:32

Kitty is a great name. I met an 11 year old Kitty recently and the name really suited her.

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2019 09:42

Contrary to a PP, I also have a nickname by which I am universally known and have never had any problems at all with having a different name on my birth certificate.

I love the name Kitty and think you could consider calling her:
Katherine
Katrin
Katrina
Kirsten
Caitlin
Christina
Catriona

Namechangenecessity · 25/08/2019 09:44

Love it. I’d call her Katherine and use it as a nn from the start.

reginafelangee · 25/08/2019 09:46

Give her a proper name like Katherine and use Kitty as a nickname.

That way she has a choice when grown up.

nononever · 25/08/2019 09:57

My friend's 9 year old daughter is called Kitty, I love the name.

Candace19 · 25/08/2019 09:58

I love it !! Was going to call my baby girl Kitty.

Shelby30 · 25/08/2019 10:02

I think it's awful, sorry.

Straysocks · 25/08/2019 10:06

We have generations of Kittys in our family. None could be considered cutesy! I associate with strength and good fun.

LarkDescending · 25/08/2019 10:18

I love it, always have done.

meow1989 · 25/08/2019 10:28

It was our girls option when I was pregnant with DS, others weren't keen but DH and I really liked it

Clayplease · 25/08/2019 10:28

Thanks so much for the replies. Funnily enough I've always liked Katharine, so I think it's a good idea, also it's my MIL's name which I'm sure she'd appreciate. Only reservation is they'd then have the same name except for the middle one and I'm not sure about that, although I do like it....
