Our baby boy was born early a few days ago and is still nameless.

Names we are considering:

Nathan
Edward
Samuel
Harry

Nathan is probably our favourite at the minute but we've been told it sounds a bit "rough" which was off putting and DH doesn't like Nathaniel or Jonathan as alternatives so any feedback is much appreciated!

Congratulations! I like Edward, Samuel and Harry - would probably pick Samuel out of them.

LollyBmummy3 · 24/08/2019 20:48

Congrats on baby boy! 💙 Our youngest was nameless for a few days too. There’s no rush, take your time. Baby, will do nicely for a few more days until you are sure sure, it’s a big decision! Nathan is nice and he could be Nate or Nat. Edward is a name that will grow with him and Eddie is cute. Sam and Harry are nice too. Harry is my fave of the lot, but is quite common at the moment. I’m a teacher (16 years) and I’ve never yet met a little Eddie. So that could be quite a unique choice. Spend time looking at him and see which one suits his little face best. 🍀💙

Samuel.

MO2x · 24/08/2019 20:53

Don't listen to other people that's the worst you can do !!! He's your baby boy you do what you decide but I love harry or Harrison ! Xx

Oneforposy7 · 24/08/2019 20:54

Congratulations! I like Nathan - the others are all very popular atm. I do prefer Nathaniel though.

Chitarra · 24/08/2019 20:54

Edward is my favourite, then Harry.

MrsKittyFane1 · 24/08/2019 20:55

ANY of your 4 names OP!! Lovely choices!
In a world full of 'Jacksons' you've picked nice names!

AdaColeman · 24/08/2019 20:58

Nathan is a lovely name, Edward would be my second choice.

daisypond · 24/08/2019 20:59

Edward is my favourite but I like Nathaniel a lot. But I’m no so keen on Nathan. It has a different vibe altogether. Samuel is fine. Harry as short for Henry is fine and would be my favourite if it was Henry. Harrison is awful.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/08/2019 21:01

I like them in the order you have them.

stucknoue · 24/08/2019 21:06

Can't go wrong with Samuel or Edward, plenty of nicknames (cute or grown up)

thebakerwithboobs · 24/08/2019 21:13

Clearly we need a squidgy baby pic!

justamum15 · 24/08/2019 21:15

William 💙

Mumshappy · 24/08/2019 21:15

Samuel.

partofyoupoursoutofme · 24/08/2019 21:19

Awwww congratulations!! Go with Nathan if it's your favourite. Don't listen to negative associations that others have! I know two Nathans, both adults, one a very successful business person and the other an aeronautical engineer. Neither could be described as 'rough'. Enjoy your newborn snuggles, it took us 2 weeks to name our first xx

Rtmhwales · 24/08/2019 21:35

Samuel. It was on my list as well. Disappointed I didn't get twins and couldn't use both names I loved.

TwoPupsandaHamster · 24/08/2019 21:41

My grandson was nameless for weeks. My preferences were Nathan, Nathaniel or Harrison. He wasn't named any of them ☹

TwoPupsandaHamster · 24/08/2019 21:44

PS... I love Sam but not an option in my grandsons case. Their dog is called Sam

MondeoFan · 24/08/2019 21:47

I like all the names you've chosen my fave ever boys name is James.
If I was having a boy I like Gene

Isanameoptional · 24/08/2019 21:47

Thank you everyone. It was originally. Edward we were going with but we've been trying it on him and it just doesn't feel right for some reason but then do babies just grow into their names?

DH wants him named asap as he feels that it's difficult to bond with someone who doesn't have a name but I'd rather make sure it was the right one. Not very good at making decisions though!

And we loved James and Daniel but already have those names in the family with the same surname Sad

Rachelover40 · 24/08/2019 21:53

I like all those names. I've never heard of 'Nathan' being 'rough', it's a good name. My neighbour is called that and he is far from rough.

Whichever one of those you choose, your son will not be embarrassed by his name.

TraceyHorrobin · 24/08/2019 21:56

Teacher pov here having known lots of teenagers over the years.. Big generalisations and stereotypes here but you did ask for opinions:
Nathan- not classy
Samuel/ Sam- lovely
Edward/ Ed- lovely
Harry- there are gazillions of them.

dementedma · 24/08/2019 21:57

Edmund, instead of Edward?
Joseph
Hugo
Simon
Patrick
Levi

HarryRug · 24/08/2019 22:01

Edward. If name doesn’t suit him now choose a nn such as Ted, Teddie, Ned, Ed, Eddie, Woody.
