Girls name list

Sleepnplay · 22/08/2019 20:25

We have found out that we're having a girl and have started to put a short(ish) list together of names. When I was pregnant with DS we liked loads of girls names but have gone off quite a few and are finding it tricker than expected! Would love to get some opinions on these names. Suggestions also welcome Smile

Matilda
Ferne
Rowan
Felicity
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby)
Nina
Iona
Beatrix
Anya
Harriet

Surname is Lee (so no Belle etc!)

Thanks Smile

Only one I like is Anya.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 22/08/2019 20:33

Matilda - I adore it
Ferne - Ok
Rowan - Ok, but sounds rather masculine?
Felicity - I like it for a grown woman, but can't imagine a baby Felicity
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - No, but only because she won't be born in autumn
Nina - I like
Iona - Noooooo, but only because of the Iona institute
Beatrix - I like
Anya - I like
Harriet - I like

Suggestions:
Sarah
Jane
Amelia
Anna
Rosa
Gabrielle/a
Charlotte

Vasya · 22/08/2019 20:38

Matilda - love it
Ferne - not bad, but I'm not crazy about it
Rowan - I like this, think it's a pretty name and I like unisex names
Felicity - perhaps slightly old fashioned but I don't mind that, and think felicity is pretty
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - don't like at all
Nina - but dated but ok
Iona - pretty but slightly dull
Beatrix - love it
Anya - not keen
Harriet - adore it, one of my favourite names

user1493494961 · 22/08/2019 20:40

I only like Matilda and Anya.

Frith2013 · 22/08/2019 20:49

Matilda - ok. My old cat.
Ferne - ok
Rowan - meh
Felicity - no
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - no
Nina - ambulance siren
Iona - you own a what?
Beatrix - ok
Anya - ok
Harriet - ok

Frith2013 · 22/08/2019 20:50

Nina Lee sounds like its all one word. Like legally.

PictureWall · 22/08/2019 20:57

Matilda - love it. Like the many nicknames of Tilda, Tilly, Milly, Matty etc
Ferne - awful. Dated.
Rowan - quite like but only know male Rowans.
Felicity - quite like.
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - tacky.
Nina - love this. Classic, international, timeless.
Iona - nice if you are Scottish.
Beatrix - meh.
Anya - nice.
Harriet - dull middle aged woman.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/08/2019 21:03

Matilda Lee is gorgeous.

thebakerwithboobs · 22/08/2019 21:05

On your note that Autumn wouldn't be an autumn baby, my name is January and I was born in June. I was named it because I was a new beginning-and because my parents liked it! Don't overthink it if you like it Smile

bluechameleon · 22/08/2019 21:28

I like Matilda, Beatrix and Harriet from your list. Two of those would have been DS2's first and middle names if he had been DD1 instead.

bridgetreilly · 22/08/2019 21:38

Harriet, Rowan, Felicity. Lovely names.

Atlasta · 22/08/2019 21:45

Nina Lee, Ferne Lee and Autumn Lee don't sound good together imo.
Anya is my favourite but I'm not sure about Anya Lee either.
In fact most of them don't flow.
Harriet Lee is nice.

MrsBertBibby · 22/08/2019 21:50

Nina. Beautiful name.

Not keen on the rest.

tabbiemoo · 22/08/2019 21:50

Matilda - love and such cute nn’s Tilly, Matty, Tilda.
Ferne - not a fan, sounds quite dull and I think you need a longer first name when you have such a short surname.
Rowan - sounds very male. Prefer Rowena
Felicity - very pretty, again cute nn’s Flick, Lissy
Autumn - not keen, very American.
Nina - always hated this name, was one of Dh’s faves
Iona - love this but don’t think it’s long enough with your surname
Beatrix - not a fan just very harsh sounding
Anya - like this but again think you need a longer name
Harriet - sweet bit really not keen on nn Hattie which 99% of Harriet’s end up as.

Out of your list I like Matilda and Felicity
Would also suggest Tabitha which has a similar feel.

MerryMarigold · 22/08/2019 21:56

I think you need 3 syllables. I'd also suggest thinking about why you went off the names you liked so much before. Do you teens to go for trendy names and then go off them later? May be better to stay classic. How about Eleanor? Georgina? Kristin? Alexandra?

Sleepnplay · 22/08/2019 22:26

Thanks all, appreciate your comments, both positive and negative.

Merry, did you mean tend to go off? (I'm certainly no teen, I'm 36 😂) I should have said went off names when ttc #1, not pregnant. I think it's because it took a lot of years, and lots of daydreaming about names! I don't hate the names I used to like, there's just a few I'm not as keen on any more. Harriet was my clear favourite for a long time but it's towards the bottom of my list now. Can't really explain it!

Thanks for the suggestions too, there's a few I like and will chat to dh.

My favourites are Rowan (I've only ever known females so although I know it's unisex it feels very feminine to me) and Felicity. I also like Matilda but only really like Tilda as a nickname so that puts me off a bit.

We've plenty of time to go so any more suggestions welcome!

I love Matilda, Beatrix and Harriet out of your options.

So hard to think of suggestions you might like as your taste is very diverse and there’s no common theme between all the names you’ve listed!

Personally I like;

Amelia Lee
Rebecca Lee
Jemima Lee
Caroline Lee
Evelyn Lee
Annie Lee
Darcy Lee

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2019 00:29

Matilda ok
Ferne love but not with Lee. Makes me think of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall
Rowan ok
Felicity not with Lee
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) ok
Nina ok
Iona no
Beatrix love this but again not with Lee. Could end up being called Bee Lee.
Anya Annually. No.
Harriet This goes well. Not a massive fan of Harriet though.
I'd go for something like
Marianne
Georgina
Josephine

Nocturnalpearl · 23/08/2019 01:02

I love Matilda Lee and Harriet Lee. I like the name felicity but unfortunately not with your surname - too many lees! I love the suggestion from pp of Tabitha. Tabitha Lee is lovely. Also like Margot Lee (sounds like a film star). I also think you need two or three syllable names. Josephine Lee is very classy too. Meredith Lee? Francesca Lee? Imogen Lee? I personally think longer name avoiding any L sounds xxx

Nocturnalpearl · 23/08/2019 01:04

Also Autumn Lee sounds too much like Autumn Leaf to me. This may or may not bother you just pointing it out x

Astronica · 23/08/2019 05:11

I love almost all the names on your list. The only ones that don't appeal to me are Ferne and Nina. I don't see any problem with Aumtumn not being an Autumn baby. Hard to narrow this gorgeous list down, but with your surname my favourites are: Matilda, Rowan, Autumn, Felicity and Harriet.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 23/08/2019 06:36

Matilda - it’s ok, but so popular where I am for under 5s.
Ferne - I usually like this, but with Lee, it makes me want to say “Whittingstall” after it!
Rowan - ok
Felicity - love this
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - I’m not sure it work with Lee
Nina - the only name on your list I dislike.
Iona - lovely
Beatrix - nice, though I prefer Beatrice
Anya - lovely, but with Lee is sounds like ‘annually’
Harriet - lovely

QueenOfThePumpkins · 23/08/2019 06:44

Some lovely choices there. My top 3 would be:

Iona
Beatrix
Harriet

AverageMummy · 23/08/2019 09:24

Matilda - love
Ferne - dislike
Rowan - like
Felicity - love
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - hate
Nina - dislike
Iona - pretty
Beatrix - pretty and strong
Anya - hate
Harriet - nice - love Hattie

Borgen · 23/08/2019 09:37

Matilda Lee is lovely (Tilly Lee is a mouthful though)
Ferne - I hate this name. It's really tacky and dated
Anya - I like but I think Anya Lee sounds like Annually
Beatrix - Nice. I think I prefer Beatrice
Harriet - I love this name and I love Hattie Lee.
Iona Lee- sounds like it should be a word.
Rowan - I love this name.
