To be dated a name had to have once been popular and I don’t think Brooke has ever been in the top 100, so In answer to you question. No I don’t think it’s is dated.

It is lovely name.
I also quite like Cecily.

meandmyboyz · 15/08/2019 13:01

I don't find it dated at all but it's seems very popular in my area my compared to the other names in your list (3 in my 5 year olds year at school ) if that matters to you.

Lovely name xx

@meandmyboyz Oh really? Never would have thought that. Thanks!

Brooke is in the same camp as Paige and Madison to me, which feel very different to the rest of the names on your list.

Twelve8Ts · 15/08/2019 13:57

@HMArsey Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I may cross this one off the list. Thanks

Ooo have never thought of Brooke....lovely name I might nick it if I ever have a girl Grin

NameChange84 · 15/08/2019 14:00

I really like it. I actually think Amelie is more dated! Seemed to be what everyone was calling their little girls 10 years ago.

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 15/08/2019 14:01

It was quite popular in the US in the 90s which may be why it feels a bit dated. I agree that it is an incongruous name in your list, which is otherwise quite classical.

Twelve8Ts · 15/08/2019 14:13

Thanks everyone! Any other suggestions are welcome as I barely like any girls names.

I prefer all your other choices to Brooke.

user1493494961 · 15/08/2019 14:23

Dislike Brooke. Like Xanthe, Cicily and Amelie from your list.

NameChange84 · 15/08/2019 14:28

And funnily enough Brooke is my favourite of your suggestions! I like Fiorella too.

I prefer Cecily to Cicely - what about Cecelia/cecilia?

Sylvie?

Thalia?

Thea?

Calliope nn Callie?

Shadow1234 · 15/08/2019 15:01

Love the name Brooke - best one on your list

MikeUniformMike · 15/08/2019 15:03

Cicely is lovely but Cecily is not, it's just Cecil-y. Cicily is a misspelling.
Brooke is dated.

diddlediddle · 15/08/2019 16:10

Brook seems a more modern spelling. Fits with the nature names trend.

Xanthe and Lila are nice too. Others not so much.

NameChange84 · 15/08/2019 16:16

MikeUniformMike, I think they are both legitimate spellings.

See the late greats, Cicely Berry and Mary Cicely Barker.

AverageMummy · 15/08/2019 16:17

Not sure about dated but it is terrible

MikeUniformMike · 15/08/2019 16:24

NameChange- they're both Cicely. Cissy is sweet, Cessy is a bit sewagey.
The plant is Sweet Cicely.
The name means Blind.

NameChange84 · 15/08/2019 16:59

Ah I see, the OP wrote Cicily. I thought you were saying Cicely was a misspelling!
I prefer Cecily and dislike the nickname Cissy (reminds me of the insult sissy). Also dislike Cessy but have never heard that unfortunate nickname until now!

I think Cecily sounds a bit classier than Cicely. To my ear it sounds like someone stammering to say the word silly. Horses for courses and all that!

BelfortGabbz · 15/08/2019 17:00

I picture a spoilt American cheerleader from 90's films when I hear it.
So yes.

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2019 17:02

II think Brooke is lovely and very under used, which is a positive.

Amelie is also lovely. I don't like the others on your list, I'm sorry. But yes, Brooke is lovely and the fact it's not common is in its favour. I don't think it's dated because it's never been common.

brookelopez · 15/08/2019 17:07

I'm a Brooke. never met anyone else with my name, I'm 31 if that helps.

MikeUniformMike · 15/08/2019 17:07

Name - the two examples you gave were Cicely. OP didn't misspell it.
Others will though and poor little DD will have a lifetime of correcting people. I think the Cecily spelling is from Cecilia.
The origin is the same.

NameChange84 · 15/08/2019 17:10

Apologies I was confused as to why you brought up the misspelling. I see now that the OP wasn’t the one who misspelled it.
