Rameses?

I'm not pregnant, but with all of the bonkers names popping up recently why hasn't Rameses reared it's head?

I've seen a Blade, a Benz and a King pop up recently, but no sign of a Rameses which is clearly far superior. Anyone want to shotgun it?

...or Imohteb haha
so many choices... ...xD

TwoPupsandaHamster · 10/08/2019 00:33

I agree OP. Why aren't there more babies named Rameses? I have to put that Joseph DVD on again now 😕

Here's some more to choose from

I've always rather like Hatshepsut. A big name for a little girl though :-P

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 10/08/2019 09:56

Ozymandias would be more versatile. NN Oz or Ozzy.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/08/2019 10:55

The convenient thing about Rameses is that you can use it for your first and second sons.

Ptolemy is macedonian/Greek. Not egyptian. The dynasty that included the ptolemys started with Alexander the Greats friend and General (possibly half brother) who took Egypt after Alexander's death.

I am a huge fan of ancient Egypt and Ramese the 2nd and the new kingdom.

Never occured to me to use the names though. Not sure why, though. I have always loved the name nefertari.

Both my kids have Greek names though.

Isis was on my list. Good job I didn’t use it.

fukkigucci · 11/08/2019 02:27

I met one! I live in America though, lots of names here that wouldn’t be used in England. He carried it off there, he was about 20ish, tall, well built. Wouldn’t work on a weedy little kid

FenellaMaxwell · 11/08/2019 08:33

@BlueBilledBeatboxingBird I went to school with a boy whose middle name was Ozymandias!

The actor Rami Malek has Egyptian parents, so I always wondered if Rami was short for Rameses!

Pinkbonbon · 13/08/2019 10:26

Oh Rami Malek is a cutiepie :) i'd be on it like a car bonnet xD

In Glasgow 'on a rami' means something different though.

reetgood · 13/08/2019 10:45

Colossus!

Just me then?

Pinkbonbon · 13/08/2019 10:46

Haha colossus. 'What am I named after mummy?' 'The size of your head when it came out of me son' xD

Teddybear45 · 13/08/2019 10:48

It’s such a stupid name. Might as well use Zeus!

Teddybear45 · 13/08/2019 10:50

Rami (pronounced Remi) is an arabic name in itself. Rameses is Egyptian. Ramesh is Sanskrit (and nothing to do with Lord Raama, and everything to do with the Goddess Rama). These names may look similar in English but are pronounced very differently and have very different root languages.

emerencemaybehopeful · 13/08/2019 11:52

Have a read of Elizabeth Peters Amelia Peabody series.

I wouldn't do anything to encourage the fates to wish such a child on me - genius or not.
