To add ... I've been teaching nearly a decade!

WildCherryBlossom · 10/08/2019 16:52

I knew one Arya at university. Australian. Would be in her 40s now. I know 2 girls with the standalone name Thea and one who is a Theodora (all secondary school age). I've met countless little girls called Mia. All under the age of about 12. Quite a few named Maya and Maia too.

happycamper11 · 10/08/2019 19:26

I know 3 Arias, Thea I know many but only because I used to live in a country where it originates

happycamper11 · 10/08/2019 19:27

Oh and several Mia

AdelaideK · 10/08/2019 20:12

I know loads of teenagers called Mia but no little ones.

I know 2 called Aria, one is 12 and one is a baby.

The only Thea I know is an 18 year old.

Mmmmdanone · 11/08/2019 10:30

I know one Thea- pronounced Taya.

IckleBear · 12/08/2019 09:22

Loads of Mia's and 1 each of the others

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 12/08/2019 09:23

Umpteen, honestly.

London and Scotland.

Aria and Mia are ten a penny and Thea on the rise.

The only other name I’ve heard more of is the omnipresent Ava.

Pinkout · 12/08/2019 11:03

Is Thea pronounced fear or Tia? I know a few Tia’s but none pronounced fear.
Never met an Aria.
Lots of Mia’s.

Hmmmbop · 12/08/2019 11:38

Pinkout I guess depending on your accent its pronounced Fear, but really it should be pronounced TH- e- AH. With the th sound made with your tongue on your front teeth, not your bottom lip on your top teeth like with you say an F sound.

tripletmum8 · 12/08/2019 12:29

No Arias
1 Thea
5 Mia’s

20viona · 12/08/2019 12:37

I love the name aria.
I know one Mia and one Thea but I work in a hospital and see about 20 Mia's a week lol.

AdelaideK · 12/08/2019 16:22

Why would Thea be pronounced fear?
It's Thea not Fea.

Same as thump or theory.

fedup21 · 12/08/2019 16:28

Same as thump or theory.

Which said with a S/E accent would sound like fump and feory!

I taught an Arthur last year-the whole class called him Arfur!

Lunde · 12/08/2019 16:30

Aria - none
Thea - 1 - she was the elderly vicar's wife when I lived in a home counties village
Mia - lots - I live in Sweden where it is a common shortening of Maria and also used as a name by itself

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 12/08/2019 16:59

Only if you’re speaking in Estuary English though @fedup21

AdelaideK · 12/08/2019 17:19

Yes fedup but we don't know if the op is in the SE of england. Pinkout seemed to be stating the name would be pronounced Fear or Tia and it seemed bit odd to not know it is a 'th' sound.

Not a big deal though I don't suppose.

Plummydevon · 12/08/2019 17:25

I know one maya and four Theas! I think Thea and Theodore have shot up in popularity this year, so you’ll probably see a lot more Theas over the next few years.
My first sons name was 9 on the UK baby name list yet had never been in a class or friends with one so 🤷🏽‍♀️ If you like a name just go with it :)

Cathyheathcliff · 12/08/2019 17:27

2 Arias, 1 Arianna
No Theas
3 Mias
I am in Scotland.

Chitarra · 12/08/2019 17:35

1 Aria
1 Thea but she's an adult not a child
Lots of Mias (especially when you include Maya too)

Thea is my favourite of these!

Chitarra · 12/08/2019 17:36

The Thea I know is pronounced Tia

Cantrip · 12/08/2019 21:07

2 Thea
4 Aria (all under 18 months old!)
Literally lost count when starting to tot up all the kids I know named Mia ...well over 15 aged between 0 & 13.

StillIRise87 · 12/08/2019 21:10

Since Game of Thrones bloody loads of Aria's, One Thea and One Mia.

StillIRise87 · 12/08/2019 21:12

Just wanted to add, please don't use Aria. It is going to date so horribly thanks to said Game of Thrones.
