Narrowed down to these two.

If louis, which spelling and pronunciation? Should the 'S' BE SILENT AS IN PRINCE LOUIS?

Or is Alfie nicer?

Louis. With that spelling and pronounced with a silent S. Lewis is a different name.

ChiaSeeds · 28/07/2019 16:08

Apologies for caps. Blush

also, would you mind saying what you associate with each name? Thank you Smile

Louis (with a silent s) is my favourite. Alfie makes me think of Kat and Alfie in Eastenders!

daisypond · 28/07/2019 16:16

Louis. Classic name. And pronounced definitely like the prince. Never ever Louie, which will make you or him look ignorant and/or stupid.
Alfie is a cheeky kid who’s out of control.

YahBasic · 28/07/2019 16:19

Louis is nicer. I like Alfie short for Alfred.

Alfred Louis is very regal.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/07/2019 16:43

Louis all day long. Afraid Alfie, although nice, has chavy connotations. Eastenders had it right. Though it's fine if you're just using it as a nickname for Alfred though, (as opposed to actually naming Alfie)

Louis Alfred or Alfred Louis would be good.

CruCru · 28/07/2019 16:55

Louis (pronounced with a silent S). To me the other two names are nicknames.

Butterfly005 · 28/07/2019 17:02

I prefer Alfie

Peachbubble · 28/07/2019 18:10

Alfie

finallychangedmyusername · 28/07/2019 18:28

Louis, like the Prince.

user1493494961 · 28/07/2019 18:30

Louis.

Frith2013 · 29/07/2019 00:32

I’d have Louis, pronounced erm... Louis. As it should be!

Lewis isn’t spelled Louis.

Frith2013 · 29/07/2019 00:35

What do I associate them with?

Alfred was my grandad so my son has that as his middle name. Alfie is too popular now.

Louis reminds me of the numerous French king Louis. Pity the royal family have snaffled it and we haven’t had a revolution of our own just yet.

DramaAlpaca · 29/07/2019 00:52

I prefer Louis, with a silent 's' as that's how it's pronounced. It's classic & dignified.

I dislike Alfie. I really don't like cutesy names, which Alfie is. Alfred is fine, though.

Linnet · 29/07/2019 01:37

Louis with a silent S

Alfie is a dogs name to me as that’s what my friends dog is called, sorry

Tavannach · 29/07/2019 02:06

Louis (no "s" sound. It's a French name. Lewis has the "s" sound like the island in Scotland.)

Tavannach · 29/07/2019 02:08

I have a friend called Louis - he's a bit posh and a bit arty, like the name really.

pikapikachu · 29/07/2019 03:08

Louis is only pronounced Loo-is in the US.

I know a Louie and his name is regularly misspelled Louis.

Sophronia · 29/07/2019 12:53

Alfie but short for Alfred

Pemba · 29/07/2019 13:32

Louis pronounced with no S definitely. Nice name. Louie is a bit babyish.

So is Alfie really, although it's cute (and absolutely everywhere), but unfortunately, Alfred still seems very Victorian, a bit stodgy.

Pinkout · 29/07/2019 14:53

100% Louis.

sunshineys · 29/07/2019 16:02

Louis is only pronounced Loo-is in the US

Also in Germany, Scandinavia, Holland etc

whizzpopbangalang · 30/07/2019 15:24

I like Alfie or Louis but not Louie... always looks a bit girly to me for some reason!

Lavenderblues · 30/07/2019 15:41

I don't like Alfie or Louie - way too cutesy and twee.

Louis is nice but will be pronounced Lou-is a lot outside France. It's a popular German name where it's always Lou-is. The US city in Missouri is also St Louis pronounced Lou-is.
