Hart? Or is she on her way out?

DH and I really love the name Miranda for our baby due in October, but I'm worried that it's too much associated with Miranda Hart. What do you think? If it helps, we don't live in the UK so she isn't well known here but our families and friends are UK-based.

Verandah?

Lovely name. I also thought Shakespeare, Miranda Hart wouldn't have occurred to me.

AverageMummy · 28/07/2019 11:11

Oh and my sister I guess Grin

HoppingPavlova · 28/07/2019 11:18

Reminds me of Picnic at Hanging Rock - “Mirrrandaaaaa”

HoratioNightboy · 28/07/2019 11:37

I just think Shakespeare, as I believe he invented the name, but I wouldn't have known which play the character was in.

I think Miranda Hart's fame was quite fleeting and is mostly forgotten now so I wouldn't worry about that connection.

PullingMySocksUp · 28/07/2019 11:40

Also think The Tempest.

I'd think 'what a beautiful Shakespearean name.'

IHeartKingThistle · 28/07/2019 12:12

How on Earth is Miranda Hart a negative association?

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 12:38

I dont think of miranda hart. Does it mean rainbow or did I imagine that?

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 12:40

Hmm I made it up..

Frith2013 · 28/07/2019 13:49

It means one who must be admired.

It’s a gerund. Or a gerundive.

SumAndSubstance · 28/07/2019 17:14

Gerundive. Then Tempest. Not Hart.

The Panda

anothernotherone · 28/07/2019 17:21

Yardley ...

I don't know who Miranda Hart is Blush

Agree the Miranda of The Tempest isn't exactly the most inspiring of Shakespeare's women, not much of a namesake... so I wouldn't be telling a DD she was named "after" that character.

It's a pretty, classic name though and I don't think associated strongly enough with any namesake to overshadow a child with the name.

Chochito · 28/07/2019 17:22

The Tempest

Who's Miranda Hart?

teachermam · 28/07/2019 17:24

I say no

Pineapplefish · 28/07/2019 17:57

I think of Miranda West from the Antonia Forest books! Lovely name.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 28/07/2019 19:05

I don't associate it with any person, I just see it as very middle class.

EleanorOalike · 28/07/2019 19:07

Definitely Hart.

UnicornCat · 28/07/2019 19:19

What's wrong with Miranda Hart?! I love her😂

It's a lovely name. Even if people did associate it with her, who cares? Also, everyone will soon associate it with your daughter as they'll know her.

CatkinToadflax · 28/07/2019 19:43

Quick shout out for Miranda Hart - my autistic DS is a huge fan of hers and she’s been very sweet to him. She’s a properly decent person. Smile Lovely name too - if you and DH like it then definitely keep it on your list!

QOD · 28/07/2019 19:44
