My top 3
Cosmo
Rex
Magnus

All fairly normal names I think, too posh In Dh's opinion. If I like these what else would I like?

He's also vetoed Conrad, his favourite name is Thomas.

I'd love to find an old old English name lole ethelred (but not that!)

I had this problem with DH. I love posh names.
Dominic
Rupert
Hugo
Hector
Dorian
Joslyn
Jago
All vetoed by DH as too posh.
If you like Irish names what about the Irish version of Magnus - Manus?
Lorcan
Ruary (spelling varies)
Conn or Conrad?

And Hamish

sawyersfishbiscuits · 29/07/2019 13:10

If you like Jasper I think Fraser/Frazer is a nicer softer sounding alternative.

Angus
Fergus
Arlo
Theo
Teddy

All safer but niceish options for DH.

Sorry I can't think of old English names, erm Arthur? Eustace? Horacio?

lottiegarbanzo · 29/07/2019 13:15

Ludo
Arlo
Valentine
Seth

I think Conrad is a great.

Sebastian is a good compromise.

Drogosnextwife · 29/07/2019 13:16

No none of the names in your OP are fairly normal names accept Thomas.

Cosmo is also the name of a chain of world buffets where I live.

lottiegarbanzo · 29/07/2019 13:20

Magnus is much nicer than Angus - and doesn't seem posh to me at all (whereas Cosmo and Sebastian do, not Max though, Max is an ordinary name, unless it's Maximillian).

How about Andrew? Quite unusual these days!

HMArsey · 29/07/2019 13:28

If your DH is naming the grandparents, OP, perhaps you could name the baby. Wink

I think you need names that a handsome windswept servant who is wrangling a horse in a manly manner would be called. Some posh names are a bit chinless.

Oisin
Jarlaith
Jago
Heath
Seth
Ruben
Malachi

I have a friend called Inigo.
If he is called Indigo, he says, "It's inigo, but I won't get violet about it."

joystir59 · 29/07/2019 14:06

Every suggestion made so far is just awful.

Lucked · 29/07/2019 14:06

What about Ivo as opposed to Ivor/Ivan

CrackOn · 29/07/2019 14:11

Go on then, @joystir59. We're waiting eagerly for your amazing name suggestions.

balonzz · 29/07/2019 14:15

I thought that the spelling was Cosimo

CrackOn · 29/07/2019 14:23

I thought that the spelling was Cosimo

Nah. It's Cosmo in Bridget Jones's Diary.

Lucked · 29/07/2019 14:41

“Cosmo is the English form of Cosimo which was brought to England in the 18th century by the second Scottish Duke of Gordon, who named his son and successor after his friend Cosimo III de Medi”.

I have know two and yes Bridget Jones

gower4 · 29/07/2019 18:05

Is anyone else showing their age and thinking......

..........Dibs!

Oriunda · 19/09/2019 15:19

It’s Cosmo - I have one. His Italian grandfather is Cosimo. We like it.

If I’d been lucky enough to have had a second, I quite fancied Ludovico (Ludo for short) - the ‘o’ names work quite well, so might for you eg

Ludo
Jago
Hugo
Arlo etc etc

MissHenty · 19/09/2019 15:56

Clarence

What do you think @JanewaysBun

NoSauce · 20/09/2019 17:18

Love Magnus and Rex.
