I have a little girl called Clara & I seem to be drawn to ‘simple’ names (not deliberately so there might be a long name I’d love). It’s been quite hard to find another name we agree on. Not particularly bothered by popularity as even the top names are less than a percent of babies - just struggling to find one we both like.

Rose is a contender - what do people think?
Other possibilities are Alice & Sophia.
I also love Charlotte but I think it’s too close to Clara.

For boys: Robin, Peter, Luke & Rowan?

I hadn’t noticed I had such a thing for the letter R until writing this!

All views welcome Smile

Love Alice and Sophia. Rose is nice too.
Not as keen on Charlotte.
I'd choose Alice, a timeless classic and goes perfectly with Clara (not that that really matters as they get older).
Of the boys names I only like Luke. Again, a classic that suits all ages.
Peter seems too classicConfused
Robin is a bit wet
I prefer Rowan as a feminine first name.

diddlediddle · 25/07/2019 14:34

Alice and Luke 👍🏼

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/07/2019 14:40

I think Rose is beautiful and has the same timeless charm to it as Clara. It’s lovely to see it as a first name too.
I’m not as keen on your boys list but I think Peter is in the same kind of category as Clara.

I just love Rose. It's undeniably classy and I don't think it will ever be dated, but it's also just such a pretty name (without being too cutesy) with a lovely sound and meaning.

I like Sophia best of your other options but I think Rose would stand out more as a lovely choice right now. There are a lot of Sophias and indeed Sophies and those are very pretty names too, but more popular. I see the name Rose as fitting in very well with peers by those names but being a bit more notable.

For your boys' names, I like Rowan a lot but would take it off the table for future children if you have a girl and use Rose. I think it's one or the other, so maybe see which you'd feel sadder about not using! That might help make your decision. Of the other names, I like Peter best. Again, like Rose, it's familiar and classy but there aren't loads of them.

For your

Oops, not sure what I did at the end there. In conclusion, I've just seen the poster above me and agree that Rose and Peter are timeless and the nicest choices with Clara.

Shadow1234 · 25/07/2019 15:41

Clara and Rose sound lovely together.
Not keen on Alice and I know of 3 Sophias born in the last year

Luke is the only boys name I like on your list
I prefer Rowan as a girls name

teenmum18 · 25/07/2019 15:48

Rose just reminds me of rose west Confused

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 25/07/2019 15:54

Rose is simply lovely and yet I've never actually come across a child just called Rose as a teacher. It is lovely to see someone consider it as a first name without using it after a hyphen. It also fits beautifully with Clara.

From your boy list I like all of them but would wary of using Rowan or Robin if you wanted to use Rose for a future girl.

mondler · 25/07/2019 18:02

I love Rose, it was on our list if DS had been a girl. For boys names I like all apart from Robin, for some reason I prefer that on a girl! All great choices though x

SallyWD · 25/07/2019 18:03

Rose and Robin!

AverageMummy · 25/07/2019 18:28

Rose West hadn’t occurred to me Confused

If you can pronounce the letter R then Rose is lovely but a woman here locally cant and every time she calls the child all the rest of us hear is Wose.

How about Anna? Clara and Anna sound nice together I think. I also like Alice and love the name Luke for a boy.

Sophronia · 25/07/2019 20:11

Rose is lovely.

I like Robin, Peter and Luke from your boys list.

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 20:18

I like Rose. I wouldn't think of West. I think she was Rosemary anyway.

Of the three names you've mentioned I like Sophia the best. How about Sophie?

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 20:19

I love Robin and Peter from your boy list.

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 20:22

But wait... Peter Sutcliffe! See? Lots of very evil people have perfectly normal names. It's not the first thing most people think of when they hear the name. If it was, then people named Ian would all be forever being associated with evil killers. Huntley AND Brady. See?

userabcname · 25/07/2019 20:33

Rose is lovely. I also like Sophia.
Robin and Peter are great choices for a boy. I really dislike Luke and Alice although I don't know why!

AverageMummy · 25/07/2019 20:34

@Whoseagooddoggiethen Anna is a beautiful name but used by a relative

AverageMummy · 25/07/2019 20:35

@Fatkins yes I’m hoping very few would link to West - unlike a name like Myra

redexpat · 25/07/2019 20:41

I didnt make the West connection and Im from Gloucester. Unless your surname is West I think youre fine.

Yogagirl123 · 25/07/2019 20:43

I love Rose, really nice classic name. I like Luke also.

veeboo · 25/07/2019 20:49

How about Thea? It sounds like you like names which can't be shortened. I also love Rosa or maybe Edie?

AverageMummy · 25/07/2019 20:54

@veeboo I love Thea but can’t get that one past the hubby. I also love Thalia but again....he’s a right pain Grin

Much prefer Rosa to Rose.
Also love Sophia.

Love Rowan, think Peter would be an excellent choice (classic and unusual these days) but like it with my head rather than my heart iyswim, not keen on Robin or Luke.

CloserIAm2Fine · 25/07/2019 21:27

Rose is lovely, and while it’s incredibly popular as a middle name it isn’t as a first name. I know loads of girls (Brownie leader) but only known 3 Roses over the years.

Charlotte is gorgeous but I feel it is a bit too close to Clara and I don’t like siblings having the same initial

Alice is also lovely and timeless

For your boys names I like Rowan and Robin
