What are your thoughts on Rosalind? Do you know any?

Toby, Andrew, Henry...
... Malvolio, Puck, Bottom.

Sounds like someone with a cold trying to say Rosaline. Like in the friends episode when Monica has a cold and says "I'm find" instead of "I'm fine"

It doesn't, though, because it doesn't rhyme with 'find'. It's Rosalind to rhyme with, um, binned? It has a completely different sound from Rosaline.

Bananalanacake · 23/07/2019 17:07

my mum's name. love it as it's unusual.

MerdedeBrexit · 23/07/2019 17:12

Lovely name. V Shakespearean and none the worse for that. Shortened to Ros, Roz, Rosie - what't not to like?!

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2019 17:42

Rosa Linda - Beautiful Rose.

QueenofCBA · 23/07/2019 17:46

Beautiful & classy!

LongPurples · 23/07/2019 17:47

Rosalind is fine. But the shortenings aren't very nice. I know a five year old Rosalind who is sometimes called Rozi by her parents, which is ok I suppose, but at school she often gets Roz, which is horrid.

MerdedeBrexit · 23/07/2019 18:02

Why is "Roz" horrid LongPurples? I think it's lovely!

Smellybluecheese · 23/07/2019 18:18

I know a 3 year old Rosalind. I like the Shakespearean connection.

littlecabbage · 23/07/2019 18:20

I thought the Shakespeare one was Rosaline? Line to rhyme with mine?

Regardless, I like the name Rosalind a lot, and Rosa for short (rather than Roz).

Sooverthemill · 23/07/2019 18:22

It's my DDs name and no one has every called her Ros

littlecabbage · 23/07/2019 18:22

Sorry, just seen upthread that Rosalind is from As You Like It. Was thinking of Romeo and Juliet Blush

Sooverthemill · 23/07/2019 18:22

littlecabbage as you like it has a Rosalind. An excellent character

MerdedeBrexit · 23/07/2019 18:28

I've a feeling "As You Like It" likes both Rosalind and Rosaline, depending on the rhyme?

daisyboocantoo · 23/07/2019 19:19

Name of a good friend. We all call her Ros. I love it, it's very pretty.

Harebel · 23/07/2019 19:55

Sorry don't like it but I know a not very nice one so that colours my judgement.

I just don't like the way the Rosa goes with lind either

Fifthtimelucky · 23/07/2019 20:12

I like it and I know 2, one late 20s/early 30s, known as Ros. The other one is 18 and is known as Rosie.

Sooverthemill · 23/07/2019 20:32

merdebre it it's Rosalind. But occasionally he changes ending of all names to fit a rhyme,

lljkk · 23/07/2019 20:38

I like this a lot. Thumbs up.

Rachelover40 · 23/07/2019 20:38

I like it very much but prefer 'Rosalyn', it's softer.

Sophronia · 24/07/2019 15:36

I prefer Rosamund

Rachelover40 · 24/07/2019 15:55

Yes, I like that too. You don't hear it much nowadays, there's a piece of music by that name.

From wiki: The name Rosamund (also spelled Rosamond and Rosamunde) is a girls' name and can also be a family name (surname). Originally it combined the Germanic elements hros, meaning horse, and mund, meaning "protection". Later, it was influenced by the Latin phrases rosa munda, meaning "pure rose",[1] and rosa mundi, meaning "rose of the world".[2] "Rosamonda" is the Italian, "Rosamunde" is the German and "Rosemonde" the French form of the name.

Sooverthemill · 24/07/2019 17:31

rachelover40 that's a completely different name!

shiveringtimber · 24/07/2019 17:36

A good friend is called Rosalind and she's called Lindy for short. But I love the name.

StroppyWoman · 24/07/2019 17:36

Absolutely beautiful
