What is the negative association?

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/07/2019 19:43

Kirsty has a negative association as bad as adolph?

Kirsty is nice, and underused.

KezzabellaB · 21/07/2019 19:46

My daughter is Kirstie. Scottish spelling even though we're not from North of the Border!

user1493494961 · 21/07/2019 19:46

A bit dated.

finallychangedmyusername · 21/07/2019 19:47

I love it

Ronnie27 · 21/07/2019 19:48

I think it’s pretty, know a few older ones but not many young ones?

WoWsers16 · 21/07/2019 19:50

A girl called Kirsty tried to get with my husband- so
Not keen hehe x

Courtney555 · 21/07/2019 19:51

Not a fan, but that's only because I know three Kirstys, who are all not nice people.

CrumbsCrumbsEverywhere · 21/07/2019 19:52

I really dont like it. But i could be biased having known quite a few horrible ones including my first childhood best friend, forever negative association! I prefer the 'ie' spelling though. Lots of much nicer names out there.
Want to know the PPs negative association?

Colourfulest · 21/07/2019 19:52

I've never liked this name. It's quite harsh sounding to me.

CrumbsCrumbsEverywhere · 21/07/2019 19:53

I agree it sounds harsh. And a bit like 'krusty'.

I like it for its Scottish connection. I looked at Scottish/Irish/welsh names as they reflected our collective parents. Didn’t use in the end mainly as SIL had same name altho she went by a nickname

It's a bit Sharon or Cheryl to me.

CrumbsCrumbsEverywhere · 21/07/2019 19:55

Smashing your kids screens is bad, but I dont think it makes one as bad as Hitler, despite what ive said above !

QuestionableMouse · 21/07/2019 19:55

What's the negative association that's as bad as Hitler?

I like it. We have a Kirsty at work and she is the kindest and funniest person I've ever met. (and no, I'm not her!)

dementedma · 21/07/2019 19:55

Very popular here in Scotland. Know several. Equating Kirsty Allsopp to Hitler is unbelievable.

Muddlingalongalone · 21/07/2019 19:57

I love it! Not sure what the negative connotations like Adolf are???

Pemba · 21/07/2019 19:58

So Kirstie Allsopp is being compared to Adolf Hitler. Not a huge fan myself but really? I assume that's a joke?

Personally I think of Kirsty McColl, the legend that she was.

Pemba · 21/07/2019 20:00

I quite like Kirsty. Traditionally it was the Scottish short form for Christina, apparently. I like that too.

NannyR · 21/07/2019 20:00

I love kirsty/kirstie and Kirsten as well.

Fantababy · 21/07/2019 20:22

I think it's Gaelic for Christine, but I could be wrong. Spelt differently though.
