Margaret, Morag or Jean?

Margaret would get shorted to Margot, Greta or Peggy, depending on which best suited her.

Morag would just be Morag. (Though DD1 has suggested she might call her Morag the Toerag)

Jean might become Jeannie.

Give me your thoughts, please!

Definitely Margaret but doesn't go with Charlotte as a middle name. I always thought Margaret Rose like Princess Margaret was beautiful.

Margaret is terrible. And anybody that was unfortunate enough to be saddled with that name will tell you so!

Pippilangstrumpfi · 06/08/2019 08:18

I like Margaret (but hate Margot especially if pronounced Margott). I also like Margherita.

Hate old fashioned names for babies. It’s so try hard.

small2018 · 06/08/2019 08:29

All horrible old lady names - sorry.

Piggywaspushed · 06/08/2019 08:39

Haha OP : you really do need to listen to people in London saying Katie Morag more! No one will say it the way you do and your ears will hurt. The English way of saying names is the very reason I didn't call DS Alexander.

Aquilla · 06/08/2019 08:42

All I can hear in Morag is RAG!

Littlebluetinofdorcaspins · 06/08/2019 08:47

Jean, lovely (a bit coloured by the fact that one of the best people I know is a Jean!). Also goes best with Charlotte.

Margaret - good strong classic, plenty of great nicknames.

Morag - agree with pps, unless you’re planning on living in Stornaway, the pronunciation will be harsh, although it is a good, strong name.

OP they're all great - another vote for Jean here. Some hilarious comments about "old-fashioned" names - as though the currently very popular Ruby, Harriet etc etc weren't once seen as dated. Soon there'll be a few harridan Great Aunts called Lilly-Mae around anyway!

My DDs both have names that you might have an aunt called and don't seem to be suffering with them. We think they're great.

But OP have you considered Evie/Eva/Ava or maybe Mia/Mya/Maya? Every class needs a few more of those...

Bumbags · 06/08/2019 17:59

Are you giving birth to an old woman?

I would not want to be called ANY of these names.

Morag is horrendous.

I know it’s not the same name at all but Myfanwy at ds school gets mercilessly mocked for her name......kids can be cruel.

SweetJasmine17 · 06/08/2019 19:23

There are so many lovely vintage names that I can't comprehend naming a child Margret (thatcher/moody Margret) or Jean which is just awful. It makes me think of someone with a short choppy grey haircut, not a child.
Morag is the least bad but only in a northern accent. What about Nora instead?

LittleDoveLove · 06/08/2019 20:08

Definitely not Morag! It even looks ugly how it's spelt. Margot is cute.

Grufallosfriends · 06/08/2019 20:22

I think Margot is much uglier than Morag.

I prefer Margherita!

ScratchyMap · 07/08/2019 11:37

Jean is gorgeous. I love it.

Rosecherry · 15/08/2019 02:34

Jean / Jeannie Smile

And here is a cute & fun name
(Jayne - get's Jaynie as nickname)
