Margaret, Morag or Jean?

Margaret would get shorted to Margot, Greta or Peggy, depending on which best suited her.

Morag would just be Morag. (Though DD1 has suggested she might call her Morag the Toerag)

Jean might become Jeannie.

Give me your thoughts, please!

Sorry Morag!!! I don't like Margot either Grin

user1493494961 · 21/07/2019 08:03

Name her Charlotte.

PineappleSeahorse · 21/07/2019 08:20

They're all ugly.

SweetJasmine17 · 21/07/2019 08:37

They're all hideous, but Gretal would be fine

Jellystars · 21/07/2019 08:38

I’m not too keen on any but I do like the possible nicknames for Margaret - Peggy is my favourite.

SallyWD · 21/07/2019 08:50

Love Jean then Morag. We used the name Jean!

soundsystem · 21/07/2019 08:59

Thanks for all your thoughts!

@BarryBarryTaylor My gran was also a Jean and sounds not dissimilar to yours! So Jean to me is tough/no nonsense but also warm and feminine.

@BrendasUmbrella I think you called it right!

If his was our first DC my top name choice would be Deirdre but it really doesn't go with our other children! I think those sorts of names are due a come back!

Jean 💙👍🏻

DonkeyHohtay · 21/07/2019 09:08

They're all a LOT better than the cutesy cutesy Tilly-Rose, Ava-Grace, Olivia-May style names.

Personally, I'd go for Margaret with Meg as a shortening. Other two are fine as well.

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/07/2019 09:11

As for the, "ew, they make me think of old women" type comments... there's nothing wrong with old women

Depends on the old women you have met with these names.

All complete harridans

Chocolatedaim · 21/07/2019 09:13

donkeyhohtay

Oh goodness I am with you 100% Millie-May and Olivia and Gracie are not my taste at all. Too frilly and over used.

TatianaLarina · 21/07/2019 09:22

Dreadful.

Margot and Greta are nice though.

campion · 21/07/2019 09:29

Charlotte

soundsystem · 21/07/2019 09:30

@Badabingbadabum I have Scottish accent which is possibly why Morag doesn't sound harsh to me! I don't live in Scotland though so possibly should get people round here to say it before we decide!

Jean 💕

Was my Geordie Mam's name. A strong, tough, intelligent lady, who could be kind, caring and compassionate.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 21/07/2019 09:33

They're not to my taste, but I can appreciate them, if that makes sense.
They are names I associate with older relatives, which is nice.

Although, I don't like nicknames at all - especially Peggy, and I've no idea how on earth it's derived from 'Margaret'? Confused

What about Jane? Or Kitty (Katherine/Catherine)

Charlotte is beautiful as a mn

PineappleSeahorse · 21/07/2019 10:08

I'm Scottish and Morag still sounds harsh to me.

Equatoria · 21/07/2019 10:24

Norah

Equatoria · 21/07/2019 10:25

Norah? I definitely typed Morag! Spellcheck getting above itself again.

RuthW · 21/07/2019 13:44

I love Margaret but dislike the other two. Margaret Charlotte doesn't sound right though.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 21/07/2019 16:41

Are you giving birth to an old lady? They are all awful, especially Morag. Poor child.

daisypond · 21/07/2019 16:49

They’re names that are coming into fashion again. I know three under fives called Margaret and Jean. They seem fresh to me.

mrsw2 · 21/07/2019 17:01

I think they're all a bit old fashioned, sorry

Fatkins · 21/07/2019 17:31

I love Margaret and all the possible shortenings you've mentioned! So lovely.

I also like Jean but, not sure why, I'm not in love with it.
