Do you mean like Sarah- Jane or Demi- Leigh, that type of thing.

I dont have a problem with them.
Everyone that I know uses both names almost as one word, (DemiLeigh)

FindaPenny · 19/07/2019 12:26

No I don't really like them at all.... There are some that sort of sound OK because they are familiar, like Billie-Jo or Lily-may but still can't really stand them.

thedevilcamefromthehimber · 19/07/2019 12:26

No.

Soontobe60 · 19/07/2019 12:28

Very commonplace in my neck of the woods
Usually first part ending in 'ie' like Katie, second most often Lee/Leigh variations. Lots also have double barrelled surnames too!

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/07/2019 12:28

I really dislike them. All of them.

SlipperOrchid · 19/07/2019 12:29

I find a lot of the newer ones a bit of a mouthful tbh. I suppose by the time our children are adults, Ella Rose and Ella May will be as familiar as AnnMarie is to us now? Personally I'm not a fan.

Luckingfovely · 19/07/2019 12:30

NOOOOOOOO

campion · 19/07/2019 12:31

No - unless you're French.

Biscuitsneeded · 19/07/2019 12:32

No because they will get abbreviated anyway. Plus it's twee.

ifigoup · 19/07/2019 12:33

Okay if you’re Catholic, European (French, German, Scandinavian etc.), or under 20. Otherwise not.

pelirocco123 · 19/07/2019 12:39

Its not twee in this area , I am ashamed to say I am being very judgemental i know , but here its really really 'chavvy'

SillySallyStruthers · 19/07/2019 12:41

@notacooldad yeah that kind of thing

Never watched 'Ted' I take it, OP?

EL8888 · 19/07/2019 12:43

@HundredMilesAnHour this. I’m not a fan

Sooverthemill · 19/07/2019 12:43

No they are too twee. As a former teacher I hate them and as a human being I hate them. Lily- rose, Mary- jane, etc etc yuk. I'm sorry if you love them but they are horrid.

TrixieFranklin · 19/07/2019 12:44

It's personal opinion, some people love them. I personally think they're awful.

notacooldad · 19/07/2019 12:46

I dont know any that get abbreviated
From some of the kids I've worked with over the last few years
Sarah Jane
Demi Leigh
Ella Rose
Ellie May
Emma Leigh
Katie Jane
Millie -Jo
Jo Anne
Annie Mae
Macy Leigh
Funny enough, they are all girls. I havent worked with any boys with double barrelled names.
I have a neutral stance on it, I dont mind one way or another.

carmenbea · 19/07/2019 12:49

I actually don't mind some of them but you will need to give a specific example haha. Lacey Mae etc not my cup of tea

Shplot · 19/07/2019 12:52

I know a woman who gave all her kids long double barrelled first names and middle names with a double barrelled surname. So Persephone-Hortencia Evangelina-Felicity Stevenson-Bridges
Bloody ridiculous in my opinion but I think it could work with shorter names and a single surname

DonkeyHohtay · 19/07/2019 12:54

Never. They are bloody awful. Especially with -Leigh/Lee, -May/Mae, - Rose or -Grace as the second half.

Just don't.

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2019 12:59

I don't mind the traditional originally French ones like Marie-Claire or Anne-Marie, but the latest fad for hyphenating random names isn't my thing at all. Just too twee and not very classy.

Pretendapony · 19/07/2019 12:59

They’re quite chavy around here...

HMArsey · 19/07/2019 13:04

I know a family who didn’t use hyphens but still used two names shunted together eg Erinbeth and Meganbrooke.

I’ve changed the names here to protect the innocent. Grin

I worked with a John-Thomas once. Made me snigger. It suited him - I wonder if anyone's told him yet ...

FirstTim3Mummy · 19/07/2019 13:08

Anne-Marie ?
