Rowan for a girl?

countrystumpkin · 17/07/2019 21:21

Can you help with a quick ‘poll’ of if you personally think Rowan is a girl or a boy name? Also do you like it for a girl?

Husband is unsure as he sees it as a boys name - he likes the name itself but feels that she will get lots of comments about it being a male name.

Thoughts? Thanks!

There are 3 at DS’s nursery, all boys, so be prepared for the fact that it’s becoming more popular of late. I also went to school with a female Rowan.

Rohan is a boy's name.Please don't call her that.
Rowan is unisex. I get a feeling that she could be one of many in her peer group.

CaMePlaitPas · 19/07/2019 20:17

That's my last name!

CaMePlaitPas · 19/07/2019 20:18

I'm a woman, I think it's lovely although I'm biased Wink

OooErMissus · 19/07/2019 20:31

I think it's lovely for either, although I'd probably be more likely to give it to a girl.

One of the teachers at DCs' school is a female Rowan, so it's clearly been unisex for at least a generation.

Rowan is much nicer than Rowena, and Rohan is definitely a male name.

I've just finished reading an Anne Rice novel where the main character is called Rowan...she is a rich neurosurgeon and also a little magic 😄 I'd say it's a lovely girls name!

snowbear66 · 19/07/2019 20:59

I think it's lovely for a girl.

RedPandaFluff · 19/07/2019 22:40

My friend's little girl is called Rowan and I love it!

Thank you, everyone! Husband seems to be coming round to it so we might have a baby Rowan on the way!

It’s on my boys list

Constance1234 · 25/07/2019 14:48

It's a great name, but better suited to a boy I think.

Fuiseog · 25/07/2019 14:49

Genuinely unisex and lovely for both. I think I know one of each! Glad you and your husband are on the same page!

Powerplant · 25/07/2019 14:52

Rowan for a girl is a beautiful name but then I m biased😊

stucknoue · 25/07/2019 14:55

It's traditionally a boys name

IsobelRae23 · 25/07/2019 15:07

I think it’s lovely for a girl.

littlebitstressed · 27/07/2019 08:45

Love it! We’ve always said that if we have a girl with red hair she is going to be called Rowan, yet to happen even though red haired is on both sides of the family Smile

measureformeasure · 28/07/2019 11:18

My DD is Rowanne (pronounces Roh-ann) and I still love it. I didn't like Rowena and I was concerned that Rowanne was the male version.

SparklyOnTheInside · 28/07/2019 11:25

Girl's name (I know a lovely teenage girl with the name)

Knackerelli · 28/07/2019 20:02

DD is called Rowan so I love it! When she was at nursery there was a boy there called Rowan too so definitely unisex.
