Hi All

I'm due mid Jan 2020 and my DP and I are thinking of potential names.

We have come up with these two so far, we aren't sure of the sex yet.

Boy - Georgie

Girl - Kaylee / Caylee / Kayleigh
This name represents the joining of our names

I love Thea, so would potentially be using it as a second name should we receive a girl, my DP doesn't like it enough for a first unfortunately.

Your thoughts on these would be much appreciated, as will your preference on the spelling.

TIA

Congratulations.
Not keen on Georgie. I think of Georgie Porgie rhyme and the horror novel/film IT.
Prefer Kayleigh spelling. Don't love the name though sorry though I do love Leah.
Thea is ok.

Apileofballyhoo · 30/06/2019 12:30

George is fine but I wouldn't use Georgie except at home as a pet name.

Kayleigh looks best to me.

newnewname19 · 30/06/2019 12:32

I agree with PP- George on BC and Georgie as nickname? I'm a teacher and I've taught a lot of girls called Georgie but no boys

newnewname19 · 30/06/2019 12:32

And congratulations!

ranibowsprimkle · 30/06/2019 12:35

Thea is really lovely.

Kayleigh is ok if a little dated.
Kaylee and Caylee or horrific.

Georgie would be nice as a nickname for Georgia or Georgette

ranibowsprimkle · 30/06/2019 12:37

Oh nvm I didn't realise Georgie was for a boy.
I would just call him George and use Georgie as a nickname or he'll forever be 'Georgie porgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry'

elliemccg · 30/06/2019 12:40

georgie is cute but i would put george on the birth certificate, i prefer the caylee spelling. not sure how to pronounce thea? x

HoHoHolyCow · 30/06/2019 12:41

I know 3 Georgies - all girls!

Notquiteagandt · 30/06/2019 12:47

Most georgies I know are girls. Not that it matters. However my uncle was called georgie. Hed be nearly 100 now. Got called george by everyone outside family though. Georgie was just a pet name.

Timmytoo · 30/06/2019 12:49

Thanks for your input. Definitely good for thought, will show DP your suggestions and comments. Thea is pronounced Theeya with a soft "Th"

Agree with all the PPs. Just George for a boy. Lovely name. He can be Georgie at home / as a child but has a ‘proper’ name to use too. I know a couple of Georgies- all girls ( short for Georgia or Georgiana).

Sorry but I don’t like Kayleigh / Kaylee / Caylee at all. Think it will be really dated in a few years. It’s a very different sort of name to George. Thea is so much classier. Pity your DH isn’t convinced.

I also agree with PP who have said George on BC, Georgie as a NN.

I'm really sorry but I don't like any of the Kayleigh type names. They're quite dated and also I think putting your names together to make a child's name is really cringey.

I don't even like it when people do it for the name of their house, let alone another human being Confused

Alloftit · 30/06/2019 14:07

George on the BC, call him Georgie if you really must.

I personally don’t like the idea of blending your names to make a baby’s name, they are, after all, their own person in their own right. Kaylie is the nicest spelling of the name imo, but from your options Kayleigh.

MidnightVelvet9 · 30/06/2019 14:13

Georgie - the only ones I know are girls, it's very cute for a baby boy but less cute for a 15 year old boy in the school rugby team. He won't thank you for it.

Kayleigh - very dated, along the same lines of Jayden/Kaydon/Braydon . Very popular & is the Emma/Claire of yesteryear, she will always be Kayleigh B or Kayleigh C in a class with 5 Kayleigh's each with differnet youneeq spelling

Thea - I like, I like both Thea to rhyme with beer or Thea to rhyme with player. They are both nice.

formerbabe · 30/06/2019 14:17

I would do George for a boy with Georgie as a nickname.

I don't like Kayleigh or any of the variations and think combining your name's is a little cringe... Sorry!

Thea is beautiful.

userabcname · 30/06/2019 14:23

I really like George. Also like Georgia / Georgina for a girl.
I honestly am not that keen on Kayleigh. I much prefer Thea.

MikeUniformMike · 30/06/2019 14:27

Prefer George to Georgie as a bc name.
Of the girl names Kayleigh.

IggyAce · 30/06/2019 14:51

Echoing pp no to Georgie because of the nursery rhyme.
Kayleigh is the only spelling you should use, I agree it’s dated.
In all honesty I would go back to the drawing board and have a re think.

BiBabbles · 30/06/2019 14:54

I agree with previous posters on using George with Georgie as a nickname. I know a lot of George/Georgies.

I prefer Caelia, but of those I'd pick Kaylee. I don't know any around here, the names have been in decline since the '90s when Kayleigh was in the top 50 for girls, but there are still some areas where it is very popular.

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2019 14:56

I'd put George on the birth certificate. Georgie is OK for a toddler I suppose but an adult man won't thank you for it. And yes, the nursery rhyme association isn't good.

Kayleigh's the best spelling of your three options. My immediate association is the old song by Marillion, which really dates the name.

Crunchymum · 30/06/2019 17:18

George is a good name. Let him be a Georgie at home.

Kayleigh is very "of its era" and not in a good way. The fact it's a joining of your names is sorry naff and slightly narcissistic.

CodenameVillanelle · 30/06/2019 17:20

Georgie is nice for a girl or boy (George on bc). Kayleigh etc are horrible and combining your names is narcissistic and awful. Don't do that.

Owlbert · 30/06/2019 20:46

Thea is lovely (although popular where I live). All the Georgies I know are girls and Kayleigh was so common a while back it really puts me off but if you are set on it I would use 'Kayleigh'.

AverageMummy · 01/07/2019 10:57

I’m trying to find a polite way of saying what those names sound like..... I guess similar sounding would be Kayden Jayden Tyreece McKenzie....

George is nice though.
