Love it

justasking111 · 17/06/2019 18:25

Love it, the name of a great hero in Greek tales.

cosytoaster · 17/06/2019 18:25

Have always liked it

RyvitaBrevis · 17/06/2019 18:25

Very cool name. I always think of the character in the Iliad who was a good leader of noble character, brave, strong, a loving husband and father, etc.

@GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap has already mentioned the best thing about the character in the film Grin

Kintan · 17/06/2019 18:28

It’s the name of my son’s teddy bear 🧸 But I don’t think it’s a great name for a human, it has quite a harsh sound I think!

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 17/06/2019 18:45

I know a Hector and although I was a little unsure when I first heard it it's turned out to be a lovely name on him and I quite like it now.

AverageMummy · 17/06/2019 18:50

Surprised by the strength of reactions
It’s not my taste but nice enough - just sounds very posh to me that’s all

HoobleDooble · 17/06/2019 18:53

It think it's quite cute but does remind me of this;

NotTheQueensBirthday · 17/06/2019 18:58

Like it - on a dog.

AloneLonelyLoner · 17/06/2019 19:23

I think it's just awful.

DailyFailAreTwats · 17/06/2019 19:48

Enko · 17/06/2019 19:58

Yes I love it and I have known 2 both lovely lovely men.

DramaAlpaca · 17/06/2019 20:10

Hate it.

Liverbird77 · 17/06/2019 20:22

It's my son's name. I absolutely love it.
He is named after Hector in The Iliad.
It is from the Greek, meaning "to hold fast", which I think is lovely.

Elmo303 · 17/06/2019 23:02

Absolutely love it. Such a cool, strong name.

EugenesAxe · 17/06/2019 23:20

Hecktor... sounds like an outburst you might have on Dartmoor.

Well, I do know it as meaning ‘a bully’ too, but if you leave meaning out of it, it’s quite cute.

HeronLanyon · 17/06/2019 23:27

I know a dog called hector. I also think of hector’s house, bizarrely, as I don’t think I ever even watched it and not sure what exactly it was . .
Not fond of it for human I think. Hectoring - not great association I suppose.

AquaPris · 17/06/2019 23:29

Yes, v much. But I'm a fan of the Greek classics

Sophronia · 17/06/2019 23:34

Love it

Snoopy90 · 18/06/2019 07:46

I like it.

DianaBlythe · 18/06/2019 09:39

@EugenesAxe Grin.

I think it’s lovely. Agree though that the r won’t be pronounced in large portions of England. Whether this bothers you or not.
I would also think of the Iliad and wonder if you had had a classical education. Surprised by the marmite reaction!

LetsSplashMummy · 18/06/2019 10:25

It's more popular here than in real life. An ex colleague, who I stayed friends with, has a baby Hector. People at work asked about her having a baby and when I told them the name, every single one said something like "no, not really," "why?" not a single nice response, when people didn't feel they had to be polite. I didn't mind it, but I've not seen that reaction to other names, and there's a baby Fox in the group.

justasking111 · 18/06/2019 13:36

Well not being popular in real life is a plus in my book. I remember Emily being uber popular, gawd there were so many of them at primary school.
