Maxine, Josephine or Roxanne?

I really want a name outside of the top 100 and I love all 3 of these names. What vibe does each name give off and which is your favourite? Just thought I'd say in advance that the Maxine Carr association does not particularly bother me; nor does the Sting association with Roxanne.

Maxine- dated vibe also middle- aged mum.
Josephine- frilly. Period drama.
Roxanne- fav of the three. Cool, sassy vibe.

Maxine I’m not sure but not keen
Roxanne - the song.... red light....very much doubt their peers would hear it in that way
Josephine very elegant

midsomermurderess · 04/06/2019 17:00

I see Maxine and think Peake. Not keen on any of them though.

formerbabe · 04/06/2019 17:01

Definitely not Maxine

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 04/06/2019 17:10

I always think of Maxine Carr. Josephine is an unlucky name for me - everyone I know with this name has had a terrible experience of some sort (serious illness, etc) so it's tainted the name for me. I liked it but wouldn't use it for that reason! I know that's ridiculous of me! I don't like Roxanne. I think of Roxanne Pallet or the song. It seems a bit dated - like it was cool but in the mid nineties somewhere in America, and doesnt work anymore.

Susannach · 04/06/2019 17:27

I prefer Maxine and Roxanne to Josephine. They have a bit more of a kick! Josephine is beautiful and an underused classic, but it doesn’t have the feistiness of the other two.

ElfishBiatch · 04/06/2019 17:29

Josephine seems like a totally different kind of name to Maxine and Roxanne. Josephine is classy and elegant. I prefer Roxanne to Maxine.

bridgetreilly · 04/06/2019 17:31

Josephine nn Josie. I love it!

daisypond · 04/06/2019 17:43

Josephine hands down, though I like Maxine as well. Not so keen on Roxanne though I do like Roxana.

Tobe123 · 04/06/2019 17:49

I think they are quite old names for a girl to be going to school with. I don't want that to sound nasty. It's obviously totally your choice and you go with any name you want :) there are alot of other names not on the 100 list.

loobylooz · 04/06/2019 17:55

Love roxanne such a cool name and never been popular

TatianaLarina · 04/06/2019 18:15

Josephine - classic, timeless.

Maxine - don’t like.

Roxanne - can’t stand, loathe Roxi. Very Stenders.

Roxanna I like though.

TatianaLarina · 04/06/2019 18:16

Maxine and Roxanne are very 80s.

MadameJosephine · 04/06/2019 18:18

Josephine is lovely

Not keen on Maxine

Prefer Roseanne to Roxanne

RoseMartha · 04/06/2019 18:19

Josephine

Howtotrainyourhamster · 04/06/2019 18:25

Maxine is a middle aged doctors’ receptionist (have known a few, mainly grumpy!)

Roxanne is a bit marmite, but don’t mind it and most kids now will not know the song!

Josephine is ok - makes me think of nuns though. Don’t mind Josie.

There are other nice names outside top 100!

RuthW · 04/06/2019 18:36

Josephine is lovely. Roxanne is ok. I don't like Maxine.

newbieman1978 · 04/06/2019 18:43

Interesting first reply thinks Maxine to be middle class. For me it's a very working class name, so maybe it's universal!

Roxanne too American, I always find American names to sound I bit common in British English.

Josephine goes with the current trend for old fashioned names, conjures up and image of a little old granny. Obviously lots of people would shorten it to Jo so you'd end up with a popular name by default.

eBae · 04/06/2019 18:44

I haven't met a Roxanne for ages! I like it!

If you wanted a blend or twist, what about Moxi? A 'moxi' girl was American 1920s slang for a girl with strength or attitude, I believe.

eBae · 04/06/2019 18:45

Sorry, the original word was spelt 'moxie' and another definition is 'determined'.

Marlena1 · 04/06/2019 19:57

Roxanne

kate1296 · 04/06/2019 21:29

Josephine is a beautiful elegant name..very random but whenever I hear it reminds me of jack singing a song off the film titanic but in a good way
Come Josephine in my flying machine
Going up she goes! Up she goes!

HagridsBigToe · 04/06/2019 22:23

It's my age, and no doubt younger people wouldn't get the connection, but for me, I automatically associate Roxanne with red lights! It's a pretty name, though- as long as it's not shortened to Roxy- I loathe that nickname!

Maxine- It's OK, but for me personally, I don't like it because I went to school with a really bitchy Maxine! That aside, it's a pretty name .

Josephine- my favourite of the three!

AmyMaria2 · 04/06/2019 22:26

Roxanne is the best. Would always be roxy though.

Astronica · 05/06/2019 01:14

I like Josephine best. Josephine has intelligent and feisty vibes to me. And lots of great short forms. Maxine is okay, and not so keen on Roxanne, but both Maxine and Roxanne are names of women in their 40s and 50s where I live (Australia).
