Lena
Jane (boring?)
Nancy (too tragic?)
Adeline

Ada- bland
Louisa-really like.
Norah-dreary. It does have stocking connotations to me.
Audrey- great. Audrey Hepburn.
Lena-OK but bland.
Jane-really like. Simple and classic.
Nancy-only if short for Anne or Anna.
Adeline-Victorian style of name that’s already dated.
Dorothy- OK but I’m not wildly keen.
Jemima- pretty sound but it has Deep South connotations to me. Aunt Jemima.

Leo- nice but popular.
Walter- I quite like this. But you might get Wally.
Henry-nice, classic.
Ralph-like.
Roland-surprisingly I like this. Childe Roland. But might be hard to pull off. Still got an old image.
Robin-not keen. Too babyish but OK as short for Robert or Rupert.
Peter-like this. Due a comeback.

MikeUniformMike · 26/05/2019 14:51

Malyshek · 26/05/2019 14:54

Hello ! I'll try to help. Please bear in mind I'm not American/British and English is my second language !

Ada - too short for my liking
Louisa (does this feel dated because of Louise?)- It does feel dated to me, I like Lou better
Norah (ruined by stockings?) I don't know the stockings but not fond of the name, sounds old-fashioned to me
Audrey (too soon?)- I like Aubrey much better
Lena - to me that's a diminutive of Elena, not a name in its own right. I like Lana though
Jane (boring?)- a bit, sorry
Nancy (too tragic?) - old-fashioned I think
Adeline - I like it
Dorothy - is fine, though it really makes me think of the wizard of Oz
Jemima - original but not unheard of, I like it

Leo - bit too common these days
Walter (pretentious?) - not pretentious but sounds very "late 19th, early 20th century" to me
Henry - name's okay but not super original
Ralph - I like it. Classic but not boring
Roland - same. Like it.
Robin - not too keen on it - reminds me of Robin Hood.
Peter (dull?) - Fine though not very original

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 26/05/2019 14:55

Starship12 · 26/05/2019 15:00

Ada is lovely but everyone is using it right now. Not sure I’d want to be 10th Ada in the class.
Def not Norah. Associate it with head scarfs and def stockings! Same for Audrey and Dorothy sorry.
Maybe Astrid is not as old fashioned? Guess it comes down to personal taste though. I know a Joyce recently and I don’t think that even sounds pretty. Def old fashioned but names come back into fashion given enough time.
Jane is classy but maybe a bit dull. Jemima is nice but always reminds me of a duck! Some people may disagree.
Evelyn nn eve or Evie? Still got old fashioned vibe but can be shortened to something more modern? Maybe becoming popular though.
Josephine, Emmanuelle, Renee, Noelle, Zola, Georgia/Georgina? Such personal thing but l love French names as I think they r elegant, so called my daughter Gabrielle.

Boys names r so difficult. Like Robin and Leo

Ces6 · 26/05/2019 15:09

Ada - love
Louisa - bit boring
Norah - sounds harsh in some accents. Makes me think of "Gnaw 'er"
Audrey - love
Lena - ok
Jane ok
Nancy - just don't like
Adeline - again, sounds harsh to my ears, prefer Adelaide
Dorothy - love
Jemima - too sloaney

Leo - bit boring
Walter like
Henry - ok
Ralph - reminds me too much of the Thornbirds
Roland - reminds me of Roland Rat!
Robin - never liked it
Peter quite nice

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2019 15:10

Be blunt, you say? Right then Grin

Ada - it's a bit dull, Ava is much nicer but so popular
Louisa - gorgeous, very classy & elegant
Norah - horrid, frumpy & dreary - and yes, stockings/nits
Audrey - fabulous, first association is Hepburn
Lena - nice but several ways to pronounce
Jane - lovely, an underused, unfussy classic which deserves a revival
Nancy - really don't like this name
Adeline - no, not keen on this
Dorothy - I quite like, would use Dolly or Dotty as a diminutive
Jemima - if it wasn't for Puddleduck I'd love it

Leo - love it, but it's very now
Walter - not keen
Henry - really like, but very popular
Ralph - can't bear this name, whichever way it's pronounced
Roland - not keen, it's on a par with Walter but way better than Ralph
Robin - it's a bit, erm, wet. Robert is much better
Peter - love it, it's not dull at all

Haz1516 · 26/05/2019 15:15

I like Lena and Nancy from the girls list. The others are a bit old lady to me. How about Annaliese instead of Adeline?

Like all the boys apart from Walter and Roland. I think Peter is definitely coming back into popularity, and the others are all solid.

ComeOnGordon · 26/05/2019 15:17

I love Luisa weirdly but not Louisa.
And like Leo

mumwon · 26/05/2019 15:20

wasn't Annaliese the full name of Anne Frank - lovely name

Fulltimemummy85 · 26/05/2019 15:47

Ada- love it, much nicer than Ava
Louisa- prefer Louise
Norah- awful
Audrey- old lady name and not cool
Lena- ok
Jane- not nice
Nancy- I love Nancy
Adeline- like
Dorothy- granny name
Jemima- cute

Leo- nice, im sure people will say it's common but I have never come across one
Walter- awful
Henry- cute and classic
Ralph- not fond
Roland- rat?
Robin- prefer Robyn for a girl
Peter- very 90's

Fulltimemummy85 · 26/05/2019 15:51

Definitely would not agree that Ada is common, I have never heard of anybody using the name. Ava yes but not Ada!

imsorryiasked · 26/05/2019 16:07

Jemima and Robin
Don't like the others

IHeartKingThistle · 26/05/2019 16:10

This never happens: I like all of your names!

In fact, I adore all of them except maybe Jemima.

Rocketgirl1 · 26/05/2019 16:12

Your names are not to my taste at all but I don’t mind Louisa or Louis and I think Jane is due a comeback.

NameChangedNoImagination · 26/05/2019 16:16

Peter

All GORGEOUS

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 16:17

Ada: I like this! Ada Lovelace
Louisa (does this feel dated because of Louise?): Nicer than Louise, and not particularly dated
Norah (ruined by stockings?): I don't think anyone cares about Norah Batty any more, but I don't love it
Audrey (too soon?): Too soon for what?
Lena: No
Jane (boring?): Yes, boring
Nancy (too tragic?): Huh? I really like Nancy
Adeline: No, too try hard
Dorothy: Prefer Dorothea
Jemima: It's okay but a bit bland

Leo: No
Walter (pretentious?): Wet, rather than pretentious, imo
Henry: Fine
Ralph: Don't love it. Has two pronunciations: Ralph and Rafe
Roland: No.
Robin: Love this
Peter (dull?): Fine. No duller than Henry.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 16:37

@DramaAlpaca your comment made me laugh especially as I recognise you & don’t think you needed telling to give your views Grin

Discobabe98 · 26/05/2019 16:38

Audrey- quite like it
Lena- dislike & confusion re: pronunciation
Jane- plain.
Nancy- in the minority but really like it
Adeline- dislike and sounds old
Dorothy- old lady name IMO

Henry- not to my taste but nothing against it
Ralph- fav of your boy names, also like Raphael

Robin- not to my taste
Peter- not to my taste either and a bit bland

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 16:38

@bridgetreilly I’d forgotten about the whole Ralph / Rafe thing - that definitely rules that one out for me !
