We do love the name Rory but Chester means so much to DH and I have nothing but positive connotations of it in my mind, it just makes me think of his lovely smiling grandad and that Emma McVeys little boy Chester who is a gorgeous wee thing. We also thought it was more unique. How sad ☹️

Googling and Holly Willoughbys little boy is named Chester, so hoping it is just mainly the older generations who will have these connotations rather than the general public

The only Chesters that I know are dogs. I think that human Chester's would get nicknamed molester later.

Rory is a great name.

They were both on my list , Rory is my favourite though , how about a middle name as Chester ?

PollyShelby · 26/05/2019 10:39

Holly stole her mate Davina's baby name which was Chester.

Davina had a thread on here about it at the time. She was fewmin.

I may have made that up

Peachbubble · 26/05/2019 10:41

I prefer Rory

pikapikachu · 26/05/2019 10:47

I have teens and in my experience, nicknames don't always rhyme. I know (through my kids) boys called Paedo-Jake, Druggie-Jack and Paedo-Rob which aren't even alliterations never mind rhyming. I think
a Chester is equally likely to get a harmless nickname like Chesney (if he's still on Corrie in 10 years), Cheese (Cheshire Cheese) as molester.

Chester is really nice! It sounds quite classic to me but not very common - I only know Holly Willoughbys son with this name. Rory is nice too but I prefer Chester.

Most boy names are also used on dogs so I wouldn’t let that bother you!

puppylovebaby · 26/05/2019 10:52

Chester

AlexaShutUp · 26/05/2019 10:53

I'm in my mid forties and have never heard of Chester the Molester. Having said that, I really don't like Chester as a name, though I do understand the desire to honour your DH's grandfather.

Personally, I'd go for Rory, as it's a much nicer name in my opinion. Could Chester be used as a middle name?

tinytemper66 · 26/05/2019 11:10

Rory- no contest 😁

CalamityJess · 26/05/2019 11:11

I like both but Chester gets my vote for having a bit more character, and a nice family connection.

novasglowx · 26/05/2019 11:15

Chester

CatSmize · 26/05/2019 11:25

Chester is really lovely.

BelulahBlanca · 26/05/2019 11:39

I’ve never heard of Chester the Molester and Chester isn’t unheard of as a name for babies. It’s sound lovely to me. Very warm!

marcymoos · 26/05/2019 11:43

Never heard of this Chester molester comic strip must be before my time ... I think it's a nice name

Heratnumber7 · 26/05/2019 11:45

Rory Chester Surname.

Kanga83 · 26/05/2019 11:49

Rory Chester. It's a lovely name. My kids have middle names after my grandparents, first names I wanted just to be 'their' names.

Fenty · 26/05/2019 11:55

Middle name is already decided, Elliott after my little brother who passed away. Chester Elliott sounded better than Rory Elliott and our surname has a similar sound to Rory so that was the other negative. Lots to think about and running out of time!

Rory Chester Elliot Surname then.
Or Rory Elliot Chester Surname.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 12:27

As lots have pointed out - kids can be cruel anyway with their paedo-jacks & whatever. Chester isn’t a name that invites teasing any more than Rory. You have a lovely reason to use Chester & it sounds great with Elliott.

ReganSomerset · 26/05/2019 12:49

Sounds like you have a clear favourite, OP, so just go for that.
