Same as op

ClaraMatilda · 25/05/2019 22:16

Beertriss, non-rhotic, London.

I once met a Beatrice pronouncing it bay-a-tree-chay, which I like much better.

MenaMum · 25/05/2019 22:17

Beet- triss

tisonlymeagain · 25/05/2019 22:17

Beer-triss - Midlands

OllyBJolly · 25/05/2019 22:17

Longstanding family name - we've had Beatrices in the past 5 generations of my family. Scottish.

Bay - ah - triss

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2019 22:17

I'm wondering if many of those pronouncing it beer-triss are using the same invisible "r" as is often found in their bath?

No r in my bath. I wonder if the Beer trisses say rum for room though a la Sarah Beeny and Kirsty Allsopp?

TinyTickler · 25/05/2019 22:18

Bee-a-triss, north western but live north east. My daughter is one and my mum pronounces it Be-uh-truss and it makes me want to kill her.

Incidently in the north east she gets Beet-ris which also isn't ideal!

Still adore her name though.

Janleverton · 25/05/2019 22:19

I say beer without a noticeable r at the end. Same with ear/fear. But bear sounds like bare.

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2019 22:20

Oh, god, just realise I've misread that bath bit. Yes, I suspect the Beer triss people are barth people.

Janleverton · 25/05/2019 22:20

I say room with barely an “oo”. Suppose does sound more like rum. Or bedr’m.

BertieBotts · 25/05/2019 22:21

I've never heard it out loud but would have assumed bee-ah-triss (or beer-triss which is exactly the same pronunciation for me - am non rhotic) - Midlands

Littlebird88 · 25/05/2019 22:21

Joeybee · 25/05/2019 23:16

Same as you - Beer-triss. I'm from the North West.

Personally think it's a lovely name pronounced this way, but when pronounced 'Be-Triss' as I sometimes hear it...the name sounds really harsh and grating.

Purplelavenders · 25/05/2019 23:18

Bear triss

AhhhHereItGoes · 25/05/2019 23:19
