Bee-er-triss, so slightly different to you op. I'm from the north of England.

MightyAtlantic · 25/05/2019 21:44

Bee-triss. I'm Scottish.

Scotstar · 25/05/2019 21:46

Bee a triss
Definitely 3 clear syllables.

NE Scotland

Luaa · 25/05/2019 21:46

I pronounce it the same as Beatrix. Not sure why. South West.

MuchTooTired · 25/05/2019 21:47

Beertriss also south east

Tavannach · 25/05/2019 21:47

Bee a triss
Scottish, in London.
Italian friends pronounce it Bee a tree chay, which I prefer, but it sounds a bit poncy if you're not Italian.

anothernotherone · 25/05/2019 21:48

Bee ah tris, though I suppose it's a fine line between that and beer- tris.

Bea-triss sounds like a shire horse.

Not sure where I'm from, my parents were rather nomadic when I was young, spent most but not all of my childhood in various parts of England.

suchasoftersin · 25/05/2019 21:49

Bey-a-triss - Manchester

99bb · 25/05/2019 21:50

We have a Beatrice.

We and most people say “Beer-triss”

A handful (which we were expecting) do a slightly elongated “Bee-a-triss” (slightly softer than I can make it sound spelling it out) which we still think is lovely.

My in-laws, and I have never heard anyone else do this, say it like two words with a momentary pause in between “Bee.Truss” drives us both mad 😂

Still 100% glad we chose her name.

Stravapalava · 25/05/2019 21:50

Beer triss - east midlands but I'm from west midlands but my dad is well posh.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 25/05/2019 21:51

Bee-ah-triss, NW.

DuchessSybilVimes · 25/05/2019 21:51

Beer-triss or Bee-ah-triss. South East originally but Yorkshire for the past 15 years so the accent is getting muddled!

thenightsky · 25/05/2019 21:52

Beer-triss (born and bred Yorkshire woman)

kaytee87 · 25/05/2019 21:54

Bee a triss- Scotland

Aimily · 25/05/2019 21:55

Bee a triss, East Midlands here.

Proseccofuelled · 25/05/2019 21:55

Bee-a-triss which I think is the same as the Wikipedia description?

Beatrice (/ˈbiː(ə)

South East

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2019 21:56

Bee a triss. NW. I don't say it very often, tbf.

I like the French way. Well, I like all the other non-English ways.

Proseccofuelled · 25/05/2019 21:56

Cut some of it out by mistake - Wikipedia has this: Beatrice biː(ə)trɪs

drquin · 25/05/2019 22:03

I'd definitely pronounce with 3 syllables, more bey-ah-triss than bee.

I'm wondering if many of those pronouncing it beer-triss are using the same invisible "r" as is often found in their bath?

drquin · 25/05/2019 22:04

And from far north of Scotland originally.

Astrid0208 · 25/05/2019 22:07

I say Bee a triss, from Cambridge.

RaffertyFair · 25/05/2019 22:12

That's the trouble with trying to write a pronunciation with letters/,words not phonetic symbols!

Those who have written beer- triss may pronounce "beer" with or without sounding the 'r' ...

Antonin · 25/05/2019 22:13

My Kentish great aunt born 1890s, was called Beatrice but known as Beat so I would presume her name was pronounced Beat-riss.

Janleverton · 25/05/2019 22:15

Beer triss

Janleverton · 25/05/2019 22:15

SE London.
