Kelson for a boys name

My son has announced their new baby son to be's name and I'm the only one who loves it. Should I encourage them to use it or go for something more conventional??

I've had downright 'Yuk' and 'No no no no' from two family members.

OP posts:

It’s not lovely to my ears.

Your DC won’t thank you for commenting negatively.

Your future DGS would thank you greatly for discouraging them though.

CodenameVillanelle · 18/05/2019 00:01

Maybe you shouldn't respond positively even if you like it because it's bloody awful and the poor baby deserves a better name!

MollyHuaCha · 18/05/2019 01:09

Shocker of a name.

cloudymelonade · 18/05/2019 01:51

Absolutely horrendous name but if it's what they want then bloody we'll leave them to it.

dreichuplands · 18/05/2019 02:02

Well if dad's name is kell it makes perfect sense.
It is their choice good or bad.

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/05/2019 02:13

For some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was screwdrivers!?!
I guess it sounds like a brand name to me.

But I agree, stay out of it else they may shoot the messenger!

notangelinajolie · 18/05/2019 03:06

"The kelson or keelson is a reinforcing structural member lying atop the keel within the hull of a wooden vessel."

Confused
Complainingagain · 18/05/2019 05:29

It's really, really, really awful.

Skippingabeat · 18/05/2019 05:32

To me it sounds like the french Calçon (underwear)

sanityisamyth · 18/05/2019 05:52

Awful

BillywilliamV · 18/05/2019 06:03

So many lovely established names, why do people have to make up new ones?

MaybeitsMaybelline · 18/05/2019 06:06

What does it even mean? I hate made up names.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 18/05/2019 06:09

Wiki says a Kelso is a structural part of a wooden boat. Tell them it suggests he might be teased for being thick as a plank (likely he won’t) perhaps that will put them off

Is it an amalgamation of his parents’ names (Kelvin and Sonia)?

Durgasarrow · 18/05/2019 06:50

Everyone knows Kelson is a girl's name.

gigi556 · 18/05/2019 07:15

I don't think it's made up as I actually know a Kelson. I like it but it's a name I've been familiar with my whole life and I like the person called it!

Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 08:05

I wouldn’t make negative comments but you could always suggest other names
Kelvin perhaps ?

MrsBobDylan · 18/05/2019 08:12

It's none of our business really and I think it's a bit unfair to test out someone else's baby name on a public forum.

The only thing that matters is that the parents like the name.

SoupDragon · 18/05/2019 08:18

It's a character in a series of books I've read. He was a king.

BuildBuildings · 18/05/2019 08:24

Well it's up to them but it sounds made up and therefore quite tacky. I kinda hate myself for saying that as it sounds really classist. But I think lots of other people in the world will think that too and people make judgements based on names unfortunately.

TildaTurnip · 18/05/2019 20:51

Noooooo! This is how terrible names happen.

InterestingShipNames · 18/05/2019 20:53

Are they Katherine Kurtz fans? Kelson is the hero of one series of her Deryni books.

Bwekfusth · 18/05/2019 21:01

I like it 🤷‍♀️ all names were made up at some point

Moorfields · 18/05/2019 21:56

Very tacky, artificial sounding name that will date really quickly. It's an awful name but I think you should approach this carefully.

Topseyt · 18/05/2019 22:28

I think it is awful. You would be better to keep out of it though.
