Kelson for a boys name

My son has announced their new baby son to be's name and I'm the only one who loves it. Should I encourage them to use it or go for something more conventional??

I've had downright 'Yuk' and 'No no no no' from two family members.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yuck.

Sexnotgender · 17/05/2019 18:39

Nelson with a K? Dreadful.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 17/05/2019 18:41

I don't mind it, for what sounds like a made up name (is it?) It's ok.

petrasolano · 17/05/2019 18:42

I have a feeling the middle name is jay Envy

It's not a good name, but not bad enough to deter them away from it.

Loopytiles · 17/05/2019 18:42

Made up. OK as a surname.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/05/2019 18:48

I don’t like it but if they do then it’s their decision. I prefer Kelden which is a Gaelic name.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/05/2019 18:48

It's terrible.

BedraggledBlitz · 17/05/2019 18:49

Leave it up to the baby's parents. I think names tend to be accepted once the kid has "worn" it for a bit, so it doesn't matter if people don't like it.

BlueMerchant · 17/05/2019 18:50

I'd keep out of it if I was you. You won't be thanked for trying to dissuade them but personally I think it's dreadful.

ReganSomerset · 17/05/2019 18:51

Is your son's name Kel?

CarolDanvers · 17/05/2019 18:52

😩

RexManningDay · 17/05/2019 18:53

It's really really not nice.

One of those made up, cut and shut names that sounds like two halves of relatively normal names shoved together.

Watersnail · 17/05/2019 19:05

Have they asked for your opinion? If they've "announced" the name to you it would suggest not, so I wouldn't say anything.

Calixtine · 17/05/2019 19:07

It’s not offensive or embarrassing. If the parents love it, that’s all that matters. Definitely don’t try to interfere.

Personally, I dislike it, but that’s just differences in personal taste.

Proseccofuelled · 17/05/2019 21:39

It’s awful but I’d steer clear

GMtoBe · 17/05/2019 21:42

It's not great but it's also not your business.

Thallo · 17/05/2019 21:58

It sounds like one of those names that Rob Delaney comes up with on Twitter. 'My large sons Glanley and Neathon/ Bryntallion & Grove/ Lanthen & Bence'

Thallo · 17/05/2019 22:00

I'd stay out of it though. Granny's helpful input probably won't be welcomed! Grin

Shadow1234 · 17/05/2019 22:05

I agree with others, it's not really your business to be trying to get them to change the name. (and I mean that it a nice way). 'Each to their own' is what I say, and I am sure the name will grow on people as time goes on - and if it doesn't, well tough luck, it's their child and their decision.

Breathlessness · 17/05/2019 22:19

It’s not your place to be ‘encouraging’ them either way. It’s also a name that’s fairly unusual, so when they google it they’ll end up with a link to this thread.

Wolfiefan · 17/05/2019 22:21

Son of Kelly?!
Yuck.
And this is why you don’t announce the name before the baby is here.
Stay out of it.

bridgetreilly · 17/05/2019 22:23

It's none of your business. Smile, say 'that's lovely' and let them make their own choices.

flyingspaghettimonster · 17/05/2019 22:29

If you kick up enough fuss they might change it. I wanted to name my daughter Lorelei and my in laws and mum said it was awful so much that I gave in. They did it again with my son who was going to be Indiana. I held out for my final choice and so Felix is the only one of my kids I got to name, and I like his name best, but they had a point... my other names weren't ideal. I feel like if I wanted to name my kid Kelson then I might end up being grateful for being talked out of it down the line... it is abysmal.

puma84 · 17/05/2019 22:52

Well I like it. But then I like something different.

Tillygetsit · 17/05/2019 23:57

Please...as the poster of the thread Bleeping mother...support your son and dil to call their child whatever they chose. It'll mean a lot to them. It's not a name I'd pick but he's not my baby and as other pps have said, it's not ridiculous.
