George, Louis or Archie

As the new royal baby is called Archie even though it isn't a regal name, I was wondering out of the queens great grandsons what peoples favourite name out of the three is.

I thought Archie was the name of an American comic book. Of the three names, I like George best, as Archie sounds like a babyish pet name to me, not a grown up's name, and Louis sounds a bit pretentious unless you happen to be a French king.

Archie or Louis

Then George. No offence to all the Georges out there but just comes across as overly English and slightly pompous

BasiliskStare · 10/05/2019 03:55

Personally I am not a huge fan of the Archie / Alfie nickname type names but then not my child , not my choice - they are perfectly fine and over the years DS has known several. I also would not ( personal preference) go for Louis but it has a resonance for that family - as does Mountbatten-Windsor rather than just Windsor. George - you can see - he will have a job to do one day & it sort of fits. I actually think William is a much better name , as Henry - although his nickname seemed pretty much thrust upon him.

There is an interesting Freakonomics podcast re names and how they work in later life. I suspect even if not in line to the throne Baby Sussex will not have to worry about this

seriously no offence intended to anyone with children with these names. I am sure there would be a deluge of opposition to my Ds's name. It is purely personal opinion.

BasiliskStare · 10/05/2019 03:57

Actually - not a great grandson , but a grandson - I like Peter. Not sure I like Pete so much but I have so many relatives and friends who are David & no-one calls them Dave Grin

Bumblebeesmum · 10/05/2019 09:01

I love the name Louis but I’m a bit Jazz fan

MyNameIsRachel · 10/05/2019 09:02

My baby is called George, we picked it 12 years ago when we started trying !

Love it, classic, can’t go wrong

RuffleCrow · 10/05/2019 09:03

Archie.

SoftBlocks · 10/05/2019 09:03

Louis. Archie is ok. Really don’t get why people like George.

whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 10/05/2019 09:06

@Fenella

Not Archie by a mile - I really don’t like just nicknames as first names. If we’re going regal, I also love Harry, Alfred, Charles and Albert.

Ironic. Harry is, in fact, a nickname for Henry...

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/05/2019 09:08

George - I have a fondness for the name that has led to me using it for my child.

Archie is OK but I can't get over the Balamory connection now that DS pointed it out Grin

Louis always seems a bit soppy. Prefer Lewis.

Mitsouko67 · 10/05/2019 09:12

George. George is solid and manly. He will never let you down.

Louis is sweet and a little girly.

Archie is handsome and unreliable, a heart breaker.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 10/05/2019 09:14

Louis

not bothered about Archie and really dislike George, it's such an ugly name, both as a word and a sound.

PetrichorRain · 10/05/2019 09:56

Not massively keen on any of them but George if I absolutely must. I prefer William or Henry!

I don’t mind Archie but I don’t like diminutives as given names, and I hate Archibald.

PetrichorRain · 10/05/2019 10:01

I’m always super surprised when someone excitedly announces their own ‘George’, as if it’s very clever or unique.

What an odd thing to say! Surely most people chose a name based on whether they like it, not on how clever or unique it is! I certainly didn’t want a clever or unique name for my son - he’s not a circus attraction or a performing monkey, he’s a real person who has to live with the name for his whole life.

Flamingosnbears · 10/05/2019 10:17

I would say Archie not keen on George or Louis at all would prefer Archibald though to give him more choice.

dolphin50 · 10/05/2019 13:53

I am surprised the queen approved Archie as the full name not just because its not regal which even Edwards children have - Louise and James but the royals all have formal names apart from Archie. Prince Harry was born as Henry to be known as Harry so I thought the new baby would be Archibald to be known as Archie or Alfred to be known as Alfie etc. Neither william or Henry have ever been known as their full names. It has always been wills and Harry
A lot of people were saying they thought Meghan would want the child to have a title but can you imagine prince Archie or Lord Archie it sounds like a bit of a joke as it is such a child sounding informal name. I do love shortened names like Charlie and Sam more so than the full name but in the royal family I thought they had to have names from their family tree. Andrew and Edwards children do but as Anne said no titles for her kids she could name her child Zara so that is probably why they can name their child Archie as he isn't officially a royal without a title. I'm sorry but can't stand surnames as other names i.e Harrison but also Jackson, Landon, Braxton, Carter, Parker and for girls Addison and Madison - just not my thing. I wonder what their future daughter would be called as Archie and Victoria don't really go and so it is likely to be a shortened informal name too, not that I don't like that but was surprised about the queens great grandchild being Archie Harrison. The others like Louis Arthur charles and Mia Grace are very different

Louis first, George second and Archie never Grin.

RuffleCrow · 10/05/2019 14:54

I think Harry does pretty much as he pleases - the pressure is off him - William is fit and healthy - or seems to be an not likely to go anywhere any time soon.

Ohgodwhyme · 10/05/2019 17:18

George

shartsi · 10/05/2019 17:21

Archie
Louis
I find George boring. A bit like Ruth.

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 17:27

my favourite is Archie, then George, then Louis!

dreichuplands · 10/05/2019 17:40

Op Archibald was a surname in the past. I know this because it is in our family tree as one.

User11011 · 10/05/2019 17:41

Louis. If I had another child and it was a boy I think we'd call him Louis.

Lilac3 · 10/05/2019 17:44

George

Louis is ok

I don't like Archie

happyhillock · 10/05/2019 17:50

I think Prince Edward's son is called James
George. Is okay
Louis. Don't like
