Girls name Marguerite, nn Maggie or Margot

Thoughts please on girls name Marguerite, to be Maggie when little and perhaps Margot when older.

Would be sister to Bert and Florrie.

Had decided on Nancy but now not sure it's interesting enough.

Thanks Smile

Lovely

journeysendwhenloversmeet · 07/05/2019 15:51

All seem a bit try hard. Why not call her Margot?

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/05/2019 15:53

I prefer Margot and Nancy but if you love it...

Arusedmoose · 07/05/2019 15:53

Maggie

PlatypusLeague · 07/05/2019 15:53

It's nice, although personally I'm not so keen on Maggie or Margot. Margaretta with Greta as nickname is another Ida.

JenSFP · 07/05/2019 16:06

Thanks so much really appreciate your opinions Smile

Idea not Ida! HmmGrin

FamilyOfAliens · 07/05/2019 16:12

Margot is a name in itself, not a nickname and definitely not a nickname for Marguerite.

And do people really impose nicknames on children when they’re older? Or at all?

DieselSucker · 07/05/2019 16:39

Margot and nn Maggie when she's little

Notquiteagandt · 07/05/2019 16:51

My little girls a margot. Always amaizes me how many people dont realise the T is silent. Something id genuinely never thought of before she was born.

Notquiteagandt · 07/05/2019 16:54

@FamilyOfAliens Margot is a diminutive of Marguerite though.

JenSFP · 07/05/2019 16:57

@Notquiteagandt that hadn't really crossed my mind. Small price to pay for a lovely name though?

JenSFP · 07/05/2019 16:58

@FamilyOfAliens it's less about imposing but more about wondering what Marguerite could be shortened to if she found it too much of a mouthful generally. I'm erring towards Margot, nn Maggie for that reason.

All lovely.
Esp Margot. Marguerite is so much nicer than (frumpy imo) Margaret.

BlueMerchant · 07/05/2019 17:06

Marguerite nn Rita? Love RitaSmile
Really Really dislike Margot. Lots.

Pegaroo · 07/05/2019 18:54

I have a Margo and love it (no t as in laws speak English as second language and were saying maggot).

FamilyOfAliens · 07/05/2019 19:05

Margot is a diminutive of Marguerite though.

Ok, fair enough I looked it up and you’re right. Just seems odd to have a nickname that it actually a full name in itself but if the OP wants it, why not?

MsTSwift · 07/05/2019 19:07

Lovely both full name and nick name. I don’t know any

SoupDragon · 07/05/2019 19:14

I love it. It's DD's middle name so I'm possibly biased.

Whoops75 · 07/05/2019 19:19

Know two with these names

Marguerite nn mags
Margot nn marg ( like margarine)

I would go with Marguerite nn Maggie

I also like Nancy

Think pearl would be nice with your other children’s names.

Shadow1234 · 07/05/2019 19:58

Prefer Margot as a stand alone name

Scardanelli · 07/05/2019 20:00

I read your thread title as "Maggot".

That aside, Marguerite is lovely.

DryIce · 07/05/2019 20:04

Love Marguerite. If I wasn't saying my children with a mouthful of a hyphenated surname (and I'd had a girl!), I'd have considered it.

I love the nickname Rita

IhavetoD0something · 07/05/2019 20:06

Margot. I love Nancy. I love Maggie too btw. Marguerite is the only one that makes me think of a pizza or a cocktail

BlessYourCottonSocks · 07/05/2019 20:10

Daisy.

That's the nn for Marguerite...
