Fíadh or Grace

Which do you like best please?

Am Irish, living in Ireland by the way Wink
I understand that Fíadh probably won't travel well (pronounced FEE-AH or Fia?, it means 'wild' so we're considering Rose as a middle name: Wild Rose)

We were (we thought) 100% sure this baby would be Grace but now we're wobbling and I feel weird for doubting a name that I was o definite about (even when TTC) so would love your opinions.

Thanks a million Smile

Thank you number1wang!

Know I shouldn't need it but our wobble after our certainty is making me need the validation from others that Fíadh is as lovely as we think. We have three children already and the girls are definitely cheering for a baby Fíadh.
(didn't even consider using Grace as middle name Blush absolutely no idea why it hadn't occurred to me either. I think Rose is beautiful but know it is very very over used as a middle name....)

OP do your other DC have trad Irish names?
I think Fiadh sounds delightful. Is it as unusual in Ireland as here? Grace is nice but has become a bit hackneyed.
Good luck

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/05/2019 16:18

Fiadh is lovely now I know how to pronounce it. I prefer it to Grace.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 02/05/2019 16:22

Exactly what Disfordarkchocolate said

Jabee · 02/05/2019 16:25

Fiadh Rose is just beautiful op.

HarryPottersSecretSister · 02/05/2019 16:27

Antonin don't want to out too much - my girls names are not traditional Irish (but fit well, IMO) but my son is Oisín (Ush-een)

Wouldn't be unusual or usual here I didn't think - just a normal name if I'm making any sense when I say that (I know of one Fíadh who is about 13 now and a neighbour of my PILs) I've never met another. That said, I've looked up the stats re the most popular Irish baby names in 2018 and it's at number 10 Confused. Delighted you think it sounds delightful Smile

Thank you Disfordarkchocolate responses are really helping me!

Fiadh Rose is beautiful!

Wolfiefan · 02/05/2019 16:31

I love it. (And I’m always the one on here hating baby names. Grin) Given its meaning I really like it with Rose.

Bubblysqueak · 02/05/2019 16:31

I had never heard of Fíadh untill this thread but it's beautiful.

Rtmhwales · 02/05/2019 16:33

It's beautiful. I second using Grace as the middle name. "Wild" Grace just sounds perfect to me for some reason.

MindyStClaire · 02/05/2019 16:33

Fiadh is lovely, but I'm not sure it needs the fada? I'm not a native speaker but I'd check before you use it, as it'd make life easier without for a start.

DramaAlpaca · 02/05/2019 20:37

I'm in Ireland too. I adore Fiadh, it's beautiful. I think I prefer Fiadh Grace to Fiadh Rose.

Bumblebeesmum · 02/05/2019 20:49

Never heard of it
Would not have known how to say it
Love it anyway

TargaryenBean · 02/05/2019 20:51

Both look lovely OP. Not sure Fiadh has a fada though.

Skylucy · 02/05/2019 21:00

Love Fiadh!! Grin 'Wild Rose' is a beautiful name.

agteacht · 02/05/2019 21:03

Its beautiful. I'm Irish living in UK, early pregnancy, Roisin has always been my favourite girls name. Now you're making me question myself 😉

averythinline · 02/05/2019 21:07

I really like it with Rose as middle name with the meaning..
Wild grace doesnt work quite so well
have no irish connections so would not have known how to say it but would have guessed at Fee ah and would have then checked ...but that applies to lots of names! but thats no reason not to use it....

BlueMerchant · 02/05/2019 21:08

Love the 'Wild Rose' meaning. I personally would have had no idea how to pronounce Fiadh and envisage problems but once you know it does sound nice. I however am a big fan of Grace and do prefer it- A timeless classic!

Imfinehowareyou · 02/05/2019 21:20

It looks and sounds lovely. It's how my DD pronounces her friend's name (Thea) Grin
I think you should use Rose as 'wild' and 'grace' as meanings don't seem to go together.

Hanab · 02/05/2019 21:22

Fiadh 💯%❤️

MotherofaCat · 02/05/2019 21:24

Really like Fíadh. It's beautiful. Grace is so bland by comparison
