Does Joe White sound too similar to Snow White? Don't want son to be bullied over name if I call him this. Xx

It does a bit,

Loopytiles · 29/04/2019 07:06

Yes!

Roo1982 · 29/04/2019 07:08

It literally just came into my head and I'm so sad I love the name

Will Joe be short for Joseph?

I personally think it's fine, although that may be because I'm relieved as I genuinely thought someone was asking for opinions on Snow White

Pastaagain78 · 29/04/2019 07:12

Sorry. It does.

icelollycraving · 29/04/2019 07:15

Tbh honest I’m a bit disappointed someone isn’t calling their child Snow White.

Roo1982 · 29/04/2019 07:17

Yeah short for Joseph but we'd be calling him Joe more than likely

Ohyesiam · 29/04/2019 07:19

Well it does, but i don’t think people would make the association very often. And if they did I do t think the consequences would be dire, it’s not like it’s rude or funny.

I have a long Greek surname which apart from the banking is generally shortened so people can say it. with my initial sounds a lot like anal. It occurred to me when I was about 12, but Only one person has ever made that association and sniggered.

PlatypusLeague · 29/04/2019 07:32

I think it's fine.

Roo1982 · 29/04/2019 07:41

That's a good point actually, I know Joe and Snow rhyme but on hearing the name would you instantly make connection Snow White?

I wouldn't have noticed had you not pointed it out and tbf to myself I.don't usually miss a trick with names. However now I can't unnotice it. How about Joseph nn Seth. Seth White is Gorgeous

Iwantacookie · 29/04/2019 07:44

I prefer snow white Blush

Roo1982 · 29/04/2019 07:48

Joe was after a family member on my side. Xx

thisisthetime · 29/04/2019 07:51

I wouldn’t have made the association. I think one syllable names sound good with white. Go for it!

AnnieDianaLulu · 29/04/2019 08:11

I really think it's fine. Both names are "ordinary" and I think if you had asked "does anyone notice anything wrong with the name Joe White" people would have had no idea what you were on about.

Lavenderblues · 29/04/2019 08:22

Sorry, Joe White sounds very similar to Snow White. I wouldn't want to be called this.

Teacakeandalatte · 29/04/2019 08:27

I don't think people would instantly think of Snow White even if it does sound similar. Both are common names and by the time he gets to the age where kids might bully most boys wouldn't be interested in fairy tales so it wouldn't be something they would be likely to think of.

Icklepup · 29/04/2019 08:54

When you say Joe White you instantly think of Snow White..

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/04/2019 09:01

I don't 'immediately think of Snow White'. I think "hello Joe, what do you know? “

Joseph White, nn Joe is a lovely name. Have you thought about any middle names?

bridgetreilly · 29/04/2019 09:05

Snow White would not have occurred to me. I think Joe White is fine.

Roo1982 · 29/04/2019 09:24

We weren't thinking of a middle name. I'm so confused now. Don't know what to do. Don't want him to be made fun of. Xx

I work with a guy called Joe White. I’ve never made the connection and it feels like a bit of a stretch to me.

Purplehammer · 29/04/2019 10:05

I once worked with someone whose name was George White he was always called Snow or Snowy.
Some people with the name White get called Chalky.

Sophronia · 29/04/2019 10:33

I know a Joe White! I’ve never made the connection.

BabloHoney · 29/04/2019 11:37
