Edgar or Edmund?

I don't really like any boys names, but dh loves these two. I don't have a problem with either and think Eddie is quite sweet.

I just don't have a preference of one over the other so looking for opinions, or any issues with either? They both sound fine with our surname.

Thanks!

I prefer Edwin to either Edmund or Edgar.

Of Edmund and Edgar I prefer Edmund.

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 22:21

'Its what i call a good boys name.'

A name for good boys or a good name for boys.

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 22:21

Yuk to both (sorry) just why would you call your child 'Edgar' it screams middle class silliness

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 22:23

There's a real trend for wannabe middle classes giving their child ridiculous retro wannabe regal or aristocratic names. What's wrong with James or Matthew or jude or louis or something normal for gods sake

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 22:23

I think it's an 'elitist' thing. Sorry!

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 22:24

ridiculous retro wannabe regal

Bloody great name for a shop selling frilltastic 'vintage' clothes!

LesLavandes · 27/04/2019 22:26

He will end up being called 'Ed'

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 27/04/2019 22:27

"Both are setting him up for years of bullying"
Said the bullies Mum.
Confused

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 27/04/2019 22:30

I hate the sound of Edgar - not sure why, i think it's the hard g in the middle.

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 22:34

Edwin is the bad Ed name. An Edwin would scratch his testicles in the office and have a sneaky sniff of his fingers when he thought you weren't looking.

TenThousandSpoons · 27/04/2019 22:42

My preferences for “Ed” names in order:

  1. Edward
  2. Edgar
  3. Edwin
  4. Edmund There’s also Theodore nn Ted.
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/04/2019 22:45

A make for good boys. I know its wrong to make assumptions but Let's be honest mostvif not all of us do

Lavenderblues · 27/04/2019 22:48

What's wrong with James or Matthew or jude or louis or something normal for gods sake

What makes Edmund or Edgar any less 'normal'?

.

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 22:58

Because its middle class elitism.

limpbizkit · 27/04/2019 23:01

We all know 'Edgar' belongs to 88 Yr old men. Unless you're Jessica who has a son in year 2 who's called 'Edgar' in comparison to all those shitty 'cJeb' s finley 's and Oscars'

Passmethecrisps · 27/04/2019 23:08

Oh for fuck sake.

They are both great names if you like them and they work with your surname.

They are not elitist or asking for your child to be bullied. What absolute shite

limpbizkit · 28/04/2019 08:39

Come on be reasonable. 'Edgar'why would you call your little baby boy that? He's got to be well cool to get away with that name!

Icklepup · 28/04/2019 08:40

Edgar

MercyBodle · 28/04/2019 09:01

Both great names and it's completely beyond me why either of these would get bullied. Odd comment.

I have a slight preference for Edmund, but both are good - if either sounds better with the surname I'd go with that. Eddie is lovely.

PlatypusLeague · 28/04/2019 10:21

In order of preference:

  1. Edwin - strong and a little quirky
  2. Edward - a classic
  3. Edmund - quite nice though a little ponderous
  4. Edgar - harder sounding, cold, eggy, pompous
limpbizkit · 28/04/2019 12:17

Please please please DO NOT call your child Edgar. It's an old man's name. It's elitist and snobby and hel will be bullied by Jude Oscar and Jetson and all the working class normal ones

Eustasiavye · 28/04/2019 13:19

Edgar is the good in literature and Edmund is the baddie. Therefore go for Edgar.
I don't understand all this Edgar is an old man's name. So are Freddie, Archie, and Alfie! Yet parents are choosing to call their children those old man names.
Soon Gary, Darren and Paul will be old mens names.

Lavenderblues · 28/04/2019 13:32

All the old men (Edgar, Arthur, Frederick etc) were once babies, you know!

Hippopotas · 28/04/2019 13:36

I like both but my OH associates Edmund with Blackadder so others might too.

MikeUniformMike · 28/04/2019 16:27

Edgar.
