Ok so I know they don’t have to go and won’t be referred to in conjunction with each other for ever but we are struggling so much with a girls name and I don’t want names that seem polar opposite in taste.

We both have names we loved but the other wasn’t keen so we’re back to the drawing board. We have three name books and looked at every list just can’t find a name and I feel like I’m going name blind now.

DD is P enelop e and I thought of Sadie yesterday should baby be a girl. But does it ‘go’?

Would one feel like they got the cooler / quirkier / classic / better name when they grow up?

I think they're a little different but they definitely work very well together!

LettuceLeave · 18/04/2019 08:58

Someone asked about the names Caspar and Thomas for twin boys yesterday. Those to me are too different...

BlueMerchant · 18/04/2019 09:00

Penelope and Sadie 'match' imo.
What about
Penelope and Pheobe. I always think these two names sound great togetherGrin

PlatypusLeague · 18/04/2019 09:03

Sadie is a bit harder in sound than Penelope, although Penny and Sadie sound quite good together. Otherwise how about Sophie, Cecilia or Susannah (Susie)?

bridgetreilly · 18/04/2019 09:22

I would say quite different. Penelope is classical whereas Sadie sounds 20th century to me. I like them both, though, and if you like them you should choose them.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/04/2019 09:23

I'd say they both have the same "vibe" so even though they're different lengths etc they sound like thry come from the same parwnts iyswim

SprogletsMum · 18/04/2019 09:24

I think Penelope and Sadie sound great together.

lordofthefries · 18/04/2019 09:25

I think they sound lovely together

stellarfox · 18/04/2019 09:37

I love them both! Great sibset

Peachbubble · 18/04/2019 09:50

Is Sadie a nn for Sarah? If so, I'd go for Sarah on bc, but use Sadie day to day. Penny and Sadie sound good together, not so much Penelope and Sadie IMO.

MollyHuaCha · 18/04/2019 10:09

I'm not keen on Sadie as actual name. It has a made up feel to it and sounds short for Sarah. I would use Sarah on bc and call her Sadie as her everyday name maybe.

Or...

Penelope (gorgeous name!) and Lucy
Penelope and Alexandra
Penelope and Susannah
Penelope and Myriam
Penelope and Serena

MimiSunshine · 18/04/2019 10:09

Thanks all. I agree they’re a slightly different vibe and I do keep wondering if we need another longer name.

I just feel like we’ve looked at every name there is so can’t even tell if we like one now or if it clashes in a weird way.

I do like Pheobe but wouldn’t want two Ps and definitely dont like Sarah.
I read Sadie was a nickname for it but feel it’s an acceptable stand alone name these days.

I think they’re odd together. Penelope is a grown up classic name and Sadie isn’t. It might have a quirky value, though. Penny and Sadie together are twee.

daisypond · 18/04/2019 11:14

Cassandra? Shortened to Cassie? Similarly Ancient Greek. Or Zoe for something shorter?

Horseshoe1 · 18/04/2019 11:16

I like them together. The sounds go, but they don’t ‘match’ too much. Cassandra or Phoebe would be too matcha in my opinion - like you’ve chosen a Greek theme!

mondler · 18/04/2019 11:33

I think they work well together and are both lovely names x

PotteringAlong · 18/04/2019 11:52

I do think if you call her Sadie you’re setting her up for a lifetime of “what’s your full name?”

chocolatelog · 18/04/2019 11:56

I think they go lovely together. And love penny and Sadie

DramaAlpaca · 18/04/2019 12:00

I like them together.

daisypond · 18/04/2019 12:06

I see Alexandra and Susannah have been mentioned. They go well. How about names like Marianne, Louisa, Julia, Helena for names with a grown up vibe and not too matchy?

Flamingosnbears · 18/04/2019 12:35

Sound fine together and not too matchy...

MercyBodle · 18/04/2019 12:51

I don't think they go together well at all. Penelope is a more traditional and formal name which exudes elegance, while Sadie is a different style altogether - a nickname name which is quirky and modern in feel.

Heaps of names would work next to Penelope, just not names that are nicknamey in style or very short names like Ivy. I'm not saying that Sadie isn't a fully accepted name in its own right - it certainly is - but it doesn't go with Penelope. Penny and Sadie would be fine together if Penny was the full name.

MimiSunshine · 18/04/2019 13:24

More of a mixed bag then. I like Sadie but I just don’t know if it’s the right choice or feels like both girls have equal sort of names.

Not sure if that even makes sense to anyone else.

DD is so far only known as P enelope which could of course change as she grows up but wouldn’t want another DD to have a name that is seen as only a nickname.

I do like the ‘greek Theme’ but haven’t found another name that I love enough and only like one pronouncation of Helena so that’s out.

Quite like Genevieve but not sure I love it or if it’s too “much”

OP posts:
chocolatelog · 18/04/2019 13:31

Genevieve is lovely, also like Evangeline

chocolatelog · 18/04/2019 13:35

My mum always said when I was choosing names for my kids. Shout the name in different tones. Like if you was telling them off lol then see if it sounds good.

The thing is with with saying two long names is it's a mouthful. Imagine calling for Penelope and Genevieve. By the time you'd said the last bit of Genevieve you'd of forgotten what you was calling them for 😂 I think long and short names go together better rather than 2 short or 2 long names.
