Thoughts on Nevaeh?

Hi, We’re expecting our 5th in June and DH recently suggested the name Nevaeh after hearing it at work, we both really like it but we looked more into it. Just so we could find the correct spelling and a middle name to go with it.

I’m not too keen on the fact it’s spelt heaven backwards, I don’t know why I’m just not. What are you thoughts? Also if you have a middle name idea please put it below so far we have;
•Nevaeh Penelope
•Nevaeh Elizabeth
•Nevaeh Imogen and
•Nevaeh Evelyn

If not what other suggestions do you have, Siblings names are;

•Willow Savannah
•Elijah Joseph
•Isabelle Olivia and
•Lydia Catherine

Thank you.- Tyler.

I’ve never heard this name before but how do people say it if it’s not nev-a-ay?

May e urs my accent but I find nev-a-ay really awkward to say.

orangeicecream · 17/04/2019 11:13

What about Niamh instead?

HopeOverAnythingElse · 17/04/2019 11:39

They pronounce it Nev-ay-uh because:

  • it doesn't actually work backwards
  • they might have issues with thinking and stuff
Tylerjayde · 17/04/2019 12:04

HildaTablet The reason we aren’t using is because of DH’s family member being called it. We have 3 Ellie’s just in his close family and that gets very confusing. So I don’t want that to happen again and we have family events a lot because it’s a very close family and I’m not into nicknames so I wouldn’t be able to shorten it to anything so she knows it her.

@orangeicecream - you haven't read the thread, have you?

Tyler - your husband is coming across as a total dickhead. Is he normally so bullish and selfish?

Namechange8471 · 17/04/2019 18:15

Just call her hell?

Surely that's a backwards heaven?

tabbiemoo · 17/04/2019 18:50

Just an awful name. Please don’t let your daughter be called this. Your other choices are lovely.

Angelf1sh · 17/04/2019 22:16

I don’t see what’s so difficult, you don’t like it so say no. Surely your DH isn’t such a dick that he’d register the baby behind your back with a name you’ve said you hate? Unless he is that big of a dick, you don’t need to worry because she won’t be called it. If he is that much of a dick then you have bigger problems than a name tbh.

Yellowpolkadot · 17/04/2019 23:17

As a parent of a Niamh I was starting to get concerned that her name was clumped in as an alternative to the monstrosity that is heaven spelt backwards.

We met one at a baby group and the mum made some weird way of pronouncing it followed by ‘it’s heaven spelt backwards’ 🙄 please don’t do it

AppleKatie · 18/04/2019 00:14

Niamh is a gorgeous name I think everyone’s just scrabbling around for ‘N’ names to offer as reasonable alternatives from the non-name gimmick that is ‘nevaeh’ with it’s made up pronunciation to make you remember ‘Nivea’.

Sorry two glasses of wine and I’ve lost my fact filter 🤦‍♀️

Topseyt · 18/04/2019 02:19

Naimh is a lovely, traditional Irish name, and nothing remotely
like Nevaeh.

Nevaeh is an utter abomination. Protect your child, OP

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 18/04/2019 02:57

Not RTFT so this may have been suggested but what about Niamh? Similar sound and it’s actjally a name rather than alphabetti spaghetti randomness.

YemenRoadYemen · 18/04/2019 07:51

😂

TulipFever · 18/04/2019 07:59

Have you cancelled the cheque, Niamh???

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2019 08:03

Terrible. And SuperChavtasatic to boot.
I am sorry to be brutal but OP. Don't worry. I came up with some absolute doozies when I was pregnant. DH wanted to call DD Jezebel! Confused
Anyway, no... you just can't. Heaven backwards? Sounds like Nivea as well.

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2019 08:05

What about Eden?

Crushedvelvetcouch · 18/04/2019 11:03

Eden is really a boys name.
When used for a girl you may as well stick with Nevaeh.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 22/04/2019 13:57

I would forget Neveah.

Imogen Elizabeth from your list of names is lovely.

mathanxiety · 23/04/2019 04:07

The only Edens I have ever known, in Ireland and the US, are girls.

brizzlemint · 23/04/2019 04:18

I'd think that you'd tried to be all yoonique and spelt Niamh differently...or wrong.

YeOldeTrout · 23/04/2019 06:23

Why does your husband like it, just the sound of it?
Backwards means... an anti-heaven & anti-Christian view on life? Advocate living for today & forgetting about the afterlife?

I don't mind made up names but ones that are confusing to pronounce & spell I frown at. I have to first write Heaven forwards to spell Nevaeh reliably.

Candace19 · 23/04/2019 06:36

Neveah is chavvy (sorry). Willow is lovely.

Just say 'no'! It's not classy, it's made up to sound like 'Heaven' backwards and it doesn't fit in with your other kids names (which are genuinely lovely!).

From your DH's list I like 'Lily' and 'Olivia' best. You could use a longer name like 'Amelia' and shorten to 'Lily' or Olivia is pretty too.

lilabet2 · 23/04/2019 09:25

The only alternative would be to call the baby Nevaeh but spell it 'Naimhaoa' or something!!
