Are these too close? We like the name Jaxon for a boy. However we have friends with the surname Jackson and a fairly close family member with the first name Jack.

Jaxon makes me think of Klaxon. Jackson is a surname. Jack is great.

NowWeAreSuckingDiesel · 14/04/2019 22:24

Are you in the UK?

Bookworm4 · 14/04/2019 22:25

No it's awful, please spell names properly, he does need to grow up.
Plus very common.

DarkDarkNight · 14/04/2019 22:27

I really dislike the spelling Jaxon. If you like Jackson I would go with that. It’s a very common surname, it’s not like anyone will think you have named him after your friends.

Littlefish · 14/04/2019 22:28

Jaxon is an awful spelling.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 14/04/2019 22:30

Jack or Jackson. But not Jaxon — it sounds more like an alarm or a chavvy name.

MyKingdomForBrie · 14/04/2019 22:30

I think it's too close and I really don't like it

Letthemysterybe · 14/04/2019 22:31

Jaxon is pretty terrible. Makes me think of ‘up yer jaxie’ .

Whoops75 · 14/04/2019 22:32

Too close and an awful spelling.

Have ye got a plan B

duebaby2 · 14/04/2019 22:41

Wow I was not asking what people thought of the name. Jeez, that was rather rude!

I have about five other boy names. I can’t name him jack as I have a sibling with the name, is that clear?

I think it depends how much you can tolerate having to constantly correct people on the spelling. That’s the issue I have with my son, his name isn’t an uncommon spelling, yet I am always having to correct people, school especially?!? It winds me up because it’s not difficult to 🤦🏼‍♀️ If you can put up with that, go for Jaxon if that’s the one you prefer, would separate him a little more from your bro’s name too 👍🏻😁

lillymunster · 15/04/2019 00:48

The spelling with the x in the middle of Jaxon is incredibly popular at the moment, I know of 3 toddlers of close friends/family with that name. I think it could date a lot so Jackson might be a better version

duebaby2 · 15/04/2019 01:01

Oh yeah I know, my name is a really common girl’s name yet it gets spelt wrong many times over or people ask me to spell it for them (even when I have a name tag on for work) 🤦🏼‍♀️ So really it wouldn’t bother me because I’m used to it with my own name.

Same with my sons surname before he got registered, it was mine at the time (was definitely not going to stay mine) and the health visitor rather than asking what surname we chose (he has his dads), she just wrote my surname all over his paperwork and red book as that’s what he’d come out of hospital as on medical notes - this meant a lot of crossing out and rewriting to avoid further confusion when we did register him with his dads surname.

It depends how much it would bother you. I do know of an uncle and nephew with the same name and they seemed to manage all right, though they weren't living near each other.

Eminybob · 15/04/2019 03:43

If you’re not married I think they always use the mums surname at the hospital. They did this with DS1 but we registered him with (now)DH’s surname. Didn’t cause any issues as far as I remember.

cariadlet · 15/04/2019 04:12

There's not much point coming on an online forum, talking about the names you are considering and then getting offended and calling people rude if they dislike your choice.

I think Jack's a lovely name, Jackson is a surname and Jaxon is chavvy.

NutMeghan · 15/04/2019 08:17

I think you should just use Jackson. I don't think it matters if it's a friend's surname. It's a pretty common surname anyway.

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 15/04/2019 08:51

But OP wasn’t asking for opinions on her name choice, as most are in this topic, she was asking if it was OK in light of having similar names in their family and friendship circle.

I would say it’s fine, OP.

Divgirl2 · 15/04/2019 15:09

Number 1 NBN of the future.

However, to answer your question it's fine.

Poppins2016 · 15/04/2019 15:15

I feel the names are too close... Jaxon is basically just spelling Jackson in a different way and his friends would probably nickname him Jack at some point...

outpinked · 15/04/2019 16:26

Hate the spelling, it makes me cringe. There’s a Jaxon in my DD’s class and I squirm a little every time I see it written down. It just looks wrong.

Applesbananaspears · 19/04/2019 11:24

Jaxon is truly one of the worst names i can think of. It’s truly hideous. I’m not mad on Jackson either as I don’t like surnames as names but it’s just infinitely better than Jaxon

FamilyOfAliens · 19/04/2019 11:26

Just call him Jaxon, OP.

I think it’s a horrible name but if you like it, what does it matter what other people think?

LettuceLeave · 19/04/2019 12:26

I think that would be fine OP.

And not thag you asked, I think it's a great name and a great spelling!

Ignore the above.. Just people giving their rude unwanted opinions, as always on this thread.

chloe9991 · 19/04/2019 14:47

I love the name jaxon! My fave boy name!!
