For a boy? Thoughts? And if you don’t hate it - ideas on a middle name with a single syllable surname beginning with R!

I'd use Miller as a middle name. I don't think it would work as a first name. Also it made me think of Windy Miller.

Shadow1234 · 03/04/2019 16:52

I really like it. You will probably get people on here telling you that it's a surname and they don't like it, but if you like it, go for it. Doesn't matter what name you choose, it will always be criticised by someone, as we all have varied tastes.

This is very true.

However, since you asked for opinions, I will say I don't particularly like it. Too surnamey a surname to me. Like Thompson or Blackwood. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone somewhere has used those as first names too, tbh! Or they will soon if they haven't already!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/04/2019 17:03

Just be careful with your surname — is it likely to run together? So it'll come out as Millerobertson without a gap (or Miller Obertson) rather than Miller Robertson?

Twelve8Ts · 03/04/2019 17:03

I know a little Miller and he is gorgeous 😊 Really like the name.

Miller James
Miller Thomas
Miller Blake
Miller Jack
Miller Rory
Miller Max
Miller Reuben
Miller Isaac
Miller Alexander
Miller Rex

BlueMerchant · 03/04/2019 17:04

It's not a name I would choose.
Suits a child/ teen as a nickname maybe but not an adult man imo.

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 03/04/2019 17:07

No, no, please don’t, it’s horrible. Might as well just call the kid Smith or Jones. Some surnames work, IMO Miller doesn’t.

IchibanLipstickForMen · 03/04/2019 17:13

My cousin named her daughter Miller Hmm

Tiramisu1 · 03/04/2019 17:46

Miller is no different to Tyler, Harris, Blake or any other traditional surname. Why not use it as a first name?

Wolfiefan · 03/04/2019 17:49

It is a job though isn’t it? Would you give the first name Baker?
I wouldn’t.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/04/2019 17:55

My DF has it as a middle name. I really like it.

mummymonica · 03/04/2019 18:18

I like it but it reminds me more of a surname personally.. but I do know 3 people with this as their surname!Smile

TrickyKid · 03/04/2019 18:21

No. It's a surname and the only Miller I know of gets called 'Milaaar' by his mother. Awful name.

IchibanLipstickForMen · 03/04/2019 18:49

88 boys and 6 girls in 2017

Miller
GivemeGinandTonic · 03/04/2019 18:53

I think it’s lovely. You get all those saying no it’s too surnamey but that doesn’t really matter. Loads of first names are also surnames even John, Scott, Kelly, Lee, Ryan etc

Luglio · 03/04/2019 18:54

I quite like it, which is most unlike me.

villainousbroodmare · 03/04/2019 18:54

I like Emile... the one I know goes by Mila which sounds like Miller.

Luglio · 03/04/2019 18:56

'Miller Max' is a good combo. You need a plosive sound for the middle name to stop it all running together.

InfiniteSheldon · 03/04/2019 19:00

I love it

colehawlins · 03/04/2019 19:01

TBH, if your single syllable R surname happens to be an "Ri" surname (Rich, Rigg, Rind etc), I wouldn't use Miller.

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/04/2019 19:02

It's terrible.

IHeartKingThistle · 03/04/2019 19:03

I think it's awful. And if you live somewhere where you wouldn't pronounce the 'r' then it just sounds like the girls' name Mila.

I have actually taught a Baker.

Ihuntmonsters · 03/04/2019 19:04

We have a Mila in the family pronounced 'miller' so on hearing it I'd assume girl. Where I live now occupational surnames as first names are very popular - my children have been to school with children called Hunter, Cooper, Carter, Taylor, Mason, Parker, Tanner and even a Thatcher. I don't like it personally.

Twelve8Ts · 03/04/2019 19:04

Harrison, Harris, Jackson, Parker, Lewis, Mason, Chester. Just a few surnames that are now commonly used at first names. Why would Miller be any different?
I think it’s a name that works well at all ages as well.

mclaleli · 03/04/2019 19:05

I like Emile... the one I know goes by Mila which sounds like Miller.

This is such a bizarre comment!

'Do you like miller'?

I like (not Miller) they go by (also not Miller) which sounds like Miller Confused

Why on earth would someone want to call their child a name so they could have them go by another name because it sounds like the actual name they like 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP, I really like it. It's not too popular, but there are enough of them for it not to be 'out there' either.
